Considering gastric sleeve and looking for local support

Recommended Posts

Hey there. I'm a 29 year old female in the Coos Bay, Oregon area. I am looking for anyone who's had the surgery in my area that would be willing to share their experience. I have been researching the possibility for about a year now and finally found this app. Any advice?

I am in Garibaldi, and have not found any support groups unless I want to drive to Portland or Salem, The Oregon Coast just doesn't have it. but this forum is helpful. I am only in my beginning stages, I gt to Fly to CA to have my sleeve in July.

My mother had gastric bypass done by Dr. Mirande in the Medford area... she's 16 years out and still speaks of how wonderful him and his staff is. Try looking into him! I remember her going to support groups as well from his office.

Can I ask why you're not having it done in state?

I work for the hospital and I have to have it done at the same hospital "CHAIN" ( for lack of a better word) but the only one that does it is in California, unless I want to pay out of pocket.

Medford is about 3 hours for me. But there is a very well spoken of clinic here in town. I have an apt with my pcp on the 30th and I plan on having a conversation with her then. Hopefully can get a referral.

I had mine done at Legacy Good Sam in Portland. I had a great experience overall.

if you have a local place then I bet they have local support groups to make friends and have meetings with live people as well as this forum for support. That will be great, you might want to attend prior to, to ask questions? if they are open to that

Thanks! I never thought of this. I figured that the support groups would be closed to only post surgery clients. Will be making a phone call tomorrow.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
