6 months documentation- ?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have BCBS- Ohio. The requirements state documentation of 6 months non-surgical attempts at weight loss. When speaking to a BCBS nurse the other day, she stated that the consistent documentation I've done of my weight loss journey on Instagram should count with doctors approval. This goes back 18 months and includes pictures of the scale, food and exercise posts. However after reading the following, I'm wondering if I'd still have to go through the formal 6 months. Thoughts?

I have BCBS of Alabama and they required 6 months of documention, too. I had go to the clinic where my surgeon were located to and my weight taken. A nurse had to fill out the forms and fax to the surgeon. Please call your insurance company to get some clarification. I've call many times to ask them questions about this process.

. Well dang, I was just on hold with the pre-qualification department for over 40 mins! Guess I'll pick up the subject another time :(

FYI for anyone in the same boat- spoke with BCBS (Ohio) again today and as long as my physician makes an assessment of my documentation and agrees that yes, I have proof of 6 continuous months... and he signs off on it, it'll be sufficient

I have BCBS Anthem does not required supervised weight loss. But 6 months of attempts in the last 2 years. The doctor has to review info, approve and forward everything to the insurance company .

I was able to document a consecutive 6 months of Weight Watchers and it was accepted. I did not have to have to attend supervised weight loss classes. My doctor's office submitted to my insurance company and I was approved in 1 day. From consultation with my surgeon to surgery date took me about 10 weeks.

Hi! same here. I need 6 mos of a medically supervised weight loss program. Fancy way of saying I just have to go to my surgeons office once a month and step on a scale. It sucks because my last weigh in appt is April. I have been done with all my other pre op stuff since before xmas so this is kind of putting a damper on my excitement.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
