I am flying soon and only taking carry on. I of course need to bring Protein with me. Suggestions on how to pack my GENEPRO? I don't want to bring the entire 90 serving container.

DS surgery 12/14/2016

I can tell you right now, don't put your servings in a ziplock baggy. You'll be sure to get special treatment if you do. Perhaps you could put most of it in something else and take the can, or at the least, peel the label off and stick it in with whatever container you decide to use. But don't count on the perspicacity of the TSA to understand what you have and what you are doing with it.

They shouldn't bother you unless the Protein is in liquid form....however, I do say that with some hesitation, last year I was practically hauled off to tsa jail for a beef Jerky stick lol. The lady tsa agent was so not impressed that all I was harboring was beef Jerky

**wait....it was a turkey stick not beef!

I use he Blender Bottle Go Stack, and I travel every week with my Protein. They will sometimes take it out and look at it, but I never really had a problem. They work awesome! I have found them at GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe, or you can order from Amazon.< /p>

@@izzy13 I mentioned this in passing earlier up. I was going through the airport line in Philly years ago. I took off my shoes, emptied my pockets, and stepped through the metal detector. DING DING DING!!! The woman came all unglued, and yelled at me, "YOU DIDN'T TAKE YOUR BELT OFF!!!!"

"Lady, if I took my belt off, I'd be accused of another crime you REALLY don't want to see!"

They did the hand wand thing on me and passed me through. The next thing I knew, I was yanked out of line for a special pat down. Now, if you have ever been in Philly, EVERYONE is in one big line. It stretches out beyond the horizon. So when they pulled me out, I was suspicious. "This is because I didn't take my belt off, right?"

"Oh, no sir, this is completely random." This was said with an expression like butter would not melt in her mouth.

"Right."

This big mean looking man appeared, and proceeded to pat me down. Roughly. When he got done, he stood back up (he was crouched down patting my lower parts) and told me I was free to proceed. I probably should have just walked away, but I am not that way. As he started to turn away, I said, "Wait a minute".

He turned back to me, staring me in the eye, and said, "Wut?"

"Does this mean we're going steady now?"

I thought his eyes were going to pop right out of his head. I imagined the snapping of latex gloves in the background as they prepped for a cavity search. He just looked at me for a few seconds, long enough for me to think that maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. Then he burst out laughing and said, "Get the hell out of here!"

Did you know you can Instagram the TSA with a picture of what you want to bring in your carry on and they'll tell you yes or no? Very helpful and they couldn't be nicer with the answers I've seen. Plus it's entertaining as heck to follow their Instagram. You'd be appalled at what people try to bring on planes...

I have metal hips and of course, I can't go through the regular scanner as I set it off every time. So I go through the body scanner and there are always areas that light up other than my hips so pat down, here we go again. I must say that as I know this will happen, I don't make it a big deal...and never have had an issue with a TSA agent. They pat me down...yes, some more thoroughly than others. They always ask if I want to do this in a private room...which I say no to...they run that paper up and down my hands...they're looking for residue related to bomb making. Who knew? I asked a TSA agent about it and she told me. Then I'm on my way. At this point having had the hips replaced three years ago, it is what it is.

Too bad no one thought guns going through checked luggage might be a bad idea. Yup...I'm at the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale airport several times a year and it was nothing more than timing that I wasn't there when he decided it was target practice time on innocent people.

I fly into FLL every 6 weeks. Terminal 2 in fact. That one hit pretty close to home.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you on this. There are dozens of millions of us who are legal gun owners and carriers who have criminal records that are... nonexistent. We are among the most law abiding of citizens out there. We are among the least likely to break the law. Yet we are maligned every time something like this happens. There is no law, no rule, that prevents people like this from doing what they will. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. The proof of that is the fact that every time one of them shows up, who gets called? The cops.

Cops are not special, they are not superior humans. They are just people like the rest of us who have decided to make protecting the rest of us their life's work. But they cannot be everywhere all the time. I have carried my gun everywhere it is legal for well over 25 years. There have been three times in those years where its presence has protected myself or others. I have never shot anyone, or even threatened to shoot anyone. But in all cases, ill intent was thwarted. If someone else had been legally carrying at that airport, it may be that more people would have lived. We do not know. There are no promises in life. But I prefer taking a chance with my gun over cringing and screaming any day of the week.

My friend LittleBill...and I do consider you a friend as you are a voice of reason when things get stupid on these boards...I respectfully agree to disagree on this one. A good guy with a gun is a cop...and not someone just standing around. If the guy standing around has a gun, he'll likely panic or shoot the wrong people. That too has been proven. Unless there is/are professional law enforcement people everywhere...people will continue to be target practice even if they are just watching a movie, going to school, waiting for their luggage, etc. etc. etc.

And yes, while I am one of those darn liberals....I agree completely that most legal gun owners are fine upstanding law abiding citizens. My second husband carried as a corrections officer and enjoyed target practice immensely. And while he drove me crazy, he wasn't crazy..and he would never do what these 'active shooters' do.

Didn't it though...

I fly Delta or Jetblue and know both Terminal 2 and 3 very well. Absolutely could have been me or my sister, or the folks, or the dozens of loved ones I have who also go through that airport all the time.

My skin always gets me groped by TSA. 100 lb loss but 90 more to go, so no surgery yet. I consider every grope a chance to tell someone about my weight loss. Hanging arms and knees (even though skin doesn't hang there) are my most groped areas!

Well, I guess it's good to know I'm. It alone in being molested by TSA. Given the sheer number of responses I'm surprised I haven't seen a post on this before.

I guess Nexus it is. I do love pre-check, so it'll be good to get it every time.

Lol...your stories crack me up. I'm very familiar with the Philly airport (I try to avoid it at all costs) being from Albany, Philly is the closest hub to here aside from NYC area airports. I traveled for work for 2 years...the stories I could tell

@@izzy13 Wow, I thought I had it bad, having to drive all of 90 minutes to get to Philly. Of course, there is that one time where it took five hours one way to collect Mrs. LittleBill - Friday afternoon, torrential rains, and all the rats trying to leave the city at once.

Get a Munchkin formula dispenser.

I keep one in my purse all the time. If necessary, I can get a cup of Water at any fast foods place and stir the powder in. It's not optimal, but it works in a pinch.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
