I am curious if it is because you are self pay? My insurance is having me do it and I am really concerned, I already see a therapist and take depressions meds... wondering if that is going to keep me from being able to get the sleeve, are they going to say I am unstable because I fight depression, I think part of it is my obesity

I've been on depression and anxiety meds for a number of years. I had also been suicidal a few years ago.

Things have gotten better with therapy and med adjustments and they cleared me for surgery.

Just be open and honest with them. That's all you can do. Good luck! You can do this!

I only had to have one because insurance required it. My surgeon actually told me it was a waste of time in his opinion, but again insurance required it.

Mine was required with my insurance. I had to have 2 visits since a student did mine opposed to an actual psychologist or psychiatrist...whichever one. Nonetheless, I was thankful for them as I have seen some ppl who did not have the psych veal as a part of their process and in my opinion weren't as prepared for the journey following surgery.

I had mine today. It took less than an hour. I think it's just due diligence on their part to make sure you're making this decision of sound mind, have realistic expectations and know you need to change your life to make it work.

Oh, and that you don't hear voices or think people are following you

My psych visit was more of a screening process to ensure I was mentally stable. It took no more than 10 minutes. He offered no counseling and didnt discuss coping mechanisms. Took his payment and wished me goid luck.

My insurance required psych eval. It was a 2 hr appt of interview & completing long questionnaire/survey. Results indicated low self-esteem...Seriously? Tell me something I don't know.

Completed 4 recomended appts and got approval.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
