Did anyone go see a mental health provider to get cleared BEFORE starting their process with a bariatric center?

I saw the staff psychologist at my first visit. But it was really based on who was seeming patients the day of my first nurse practitioner visit. I made appointments to see her a few more time pre op and have my (required) post op visitv in February.

So I'm assuming most centers would have someone on staff then?

I had a one hour consult with the doctor a few weeks ago. My second appointment next week will be with the doctor and then the psychologist (same visit). That's when they want a small deposit to move forward. I'm not sure what happens after that.

You get your surgery!!! ...if it were as simple as that, eh? I go in about two weeks for my first consult. How was your visit with the doc?

It was great. I liked him a lot. And I was so surprised he spent so much time with me answering my questions. As to what comes next, you're right! People seem to be all over the place between what the surgeons require and what the insurance companies require that I have no idea what happens next for me specifically. Had I been reading this site well beforehand, I would have had better questions...

Yes, mine was simple. An online survey then an hour call from a psychologist or psychiatrist and a pleasant conversation. $50. The rest my insurance paid for. Also had to go to a nutritionist.

No. And being asked to see the psychologist more than once doesn't mean you won't be eligible for surgery. The advantage of in house is that there usually isn't an extra charge. It's just like any other pre op visit.

I agree. There's not one script to go by. I try to get my info as best as I can but ultimately, it'll be my walk. At least I'll have some information to go by.

I like the online survey part...seems more likely to get to get as much info about the patient beforehand. (If I were a doc).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
