Does anyone know how long we will be in the hospital?

I think it depends on which surgery and hospital - maybe give them a call?

My surgery is also on Jan 5th! I too am quite nervous, but I keep telling myself how worth it this surgery will be when I start seeing results and feeling healthier.

My 3-week pre-op diet got easier every day, but it was VERY hard at first!

We are starting the new year off on the right foot! :)

Woohoo you're my op twin!

Interesting that most of us are on different diet schedules. I know my hospital says 2 weeks for everyone.

Which procedure are you having done?

I'm having RNY! I hope everything goes smoothly.

Thank you! I hope so too! I shall give you the low down (hopefully without any horror stories!) ;)

How are doing?

I'm starting my pre-op diet Tuesday, so making grocery lists and cleaning out the stuff in the kitchen that I can't have. It's tricky- I don't want my husband to not have any food around, but I don't want to see it either.

My diet is just less than 1000 calories/day, though they suggest 2 Protein drinks and one veg/protein meal each day. I'm assuming I can just make up the rest of the calories with low carb/low fat whatever, but I'm definitely thinking about Fiber. My pre-op appointment is on the 13th, so I can clarify then.

It's starting to feel real, and the anxiety is setting in!

Finally getting out of the hospital today! I had really horrible nausea and vomiting for the first two days, most likely from the anesthetic. Also some pretty bad pain. I didn't pass gas for the first time until today, so my body still feels like it's full of air. I am feeling better slowly, but the surgery was a lot tougher on me than I expected. I still feel really weak and have trouble walking. :( Hoping this will all be worth it eventually!

bluey, I'm glad you're out the other side and feeling good! I'm scheduled for 1/31 and starting to get nervous. Not so much about the surgery but all the stuff that comes afterwards! Getting ready to start my Protein shake/clear liquid two week pre-op diet. That stuff tastes nasty!! Good to hear others are getting thru it.

I'm in Virginia, right outside of Washington DC. But my family is from your area, at least a couple generations ago!

wireandwood, sorry you had a rough start. Hope you're starting to feel better.

We got a choice of 3 different diet methods. Is liquid really your only option?

Have a look here: http://www.ouh.nhs.uk/patient-guide/leaflets/files/101018bariatricdiet.pdf

I am currently drinking two 8-12oz Protein shake Meal Replacements followed by one service of lean Protein and a serving of veggies. They also have me stopping all Vitamins and most medication.

If I'm still hungry I can have some non-fat yogurt or cheese. Then only Clear liquids for two days before surgery.

Finishing my first day pre-op, too. The sugar withdrawal is not fun, but I'm surviving. And I haven't killed anyone else, either, so that's good. I had to go to a staff meeting with a grilled cheese buffet, which was pretty tortuous, but I drank a Protein drink right before and made it through without breaking. 9 days to go!

The good news is that there will be no hunger at all post op! I have to force myself to eat - now that's new!!!

Hi Ashburn

What diet are you on? We have a choice of 3 here in the U.K. I know for a fact that I could not do liquid only! I've posted a link for someone further up in this topic - maybe check it out or discuss with your surgeon?

I'm now 6 days post op and so far so good. The biggest 'pain' for me is a stitch like sensation under my left breast. Wound pain is minimal. Hunger is non existent. Up until yesterday I felt bloated and pregnant but better today!

I've been having shakes (slimfast tastes best to me) and all kinds of lovely vegetable Soups with either unflavoured Protein powder added or lentils/beans/meat for Protein.< /p>

Which op are you having? x

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
