Recommended Posts

I'm having a 'mini gastric bypass' on Jan 5th. Has anyone any experience with this particular op? I am so scared!

I had RNY 10/24/16. I've never heard of mini bypass. What is it?

I had mini gastric bypass on December 12th. Mini gastric bypass is similar to gastric bypass. One of the differences is the way the pouch is made. It is made from a different part of the stomach that resembles the sleeve pouch, except it's still the same size as the pouch made with the bypass. The other difference is that there is only one joining, or anastomosis, instead of two. It's less chance of complications and it is just as effective as gastric bypass. It works the same way.

I'm having an MGB on the 19th. It seems it is a less known procedure as I haven't seen many posts about it in this forum. I am excited though!

How was the recovery? I've read so many posts on here of some pretty terrible post op experiences.

Hi everyone, I'm jumping on an old thread to ask if anyone had experience with how it was taking meds immediately after surgery. I have a small tablet I must take everyday (not bariatric related). Can I still take it even straight after surgery? I'm going to ask my consultant but I don't want to sound like a dill.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
