C section / RNY comparison?

Recommended Posts

Can any ladies who have had both a cesarean section when they had their kid(s) and gastric bypass compare recoveries for the two?

I have had two c sections (2013 & 2014) and the pain was minimal (with meds) and my recovery was a breeze. (I was very lucky).

I'm just wondering if in your opinions bypass was better or worse!

I had a c-section in '07 and a RNY 12/12/16. The RNY has certainly been painful, but I feel that my c-section was worse regarding pain but I felt like I healed faster due to my ability intake solid nutrients sooner. But saying either surgery doesn't require pain medication is unrealistic and certainly not the experience of most.

It really depends on your pain tolerance. But I didn't use any pain meds on either. Not when I came out of surgery nor when I was released. But I have an extremely high pain tolerance.

I didn't even think they compared.

With the c-section, you have a beautiful baby to love on and enjoy.

With surgery you have nausea, vomiting and a ton of pain with no immediate gratification.

Not even in the same ballpark.

I had c section in 2000 and rny 12-5-16.... pain was much worse for the rny.

I didn't use any pain meds for c sexton but used up all the liquid Percocet provided for rny recovery.

First week didn't seem that bad after rny but in my second week it was terrible. Back pain and sharp pains in the incision site. Then like a klutz I fell and hit my stomach day 13. Pulled all my muscles and bruised my stomach so pain was VERY intense week 3.

As of yesterday I am finally pain free and don't need aspirin anymore.

C-section was way worse...maybe because I went into it after 24 hours of labor. Anyway, I had a much harder time after both my c-sections than after my RNY. The day after my second c-section, I was shaking when I got into the car from the wheelchair. The day after RNY, I didn't even use a wheelchair. I walked myself to the parking garage and could have taken the train home if need be.

I'm with VInasu. My c-section was infinitely worse..but i was in labor for 18 hours beforehand. my RNY was way easier than I thought. I was up walking same day. got up and walked through the first night. didn't need pain meds after the first day and asked to be discharged a day early (they wouldn't). Hardest thing post op was really the fatigue due to low calories. but my Vitamin Patches helped. I went apple picking on day 5. no way I could have done that post c-section.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
