I'm glad you posted this but it is an absolute waste.

It is like walking into a heroine den and talking to people about being clean. The people that are food addicts are lost causes, nothing is going to stop them from self harm.

I like to think there are people who just read and absorb, and don't get into the fray. I'm writing mostly for them. And from now on when this kind of post gets made, I'll link back to this one as my only comment and move along. LOL.

At the end of the day, it all depends on your program and their rules. Follow the rules. If given none, then ask just to be sure.

Some 'cheat'. I agree that it is 'cheating', because they broke the rules and got away with it. That is why they can post about such actions. Some others broke the rules and ended up being hospitalised for weeks. Those ones rarely describe their actions as cheating.

Anyway, know that there are consequences for all actions.

I forgot I was recently sleeved and tried to move a couch last week, an action that took a mere 3 seconds, yet I felt the pain for many hrs.

Instructions are given for real reasons.

One thing I have seen in my short time here are lots of posts about eating stuff we shouldn't too early, while our sleeve is still healing. But I HAVEN'T seen posts titled, My surgeon opened me up again because I ate solid food". I suspect people are a little more circumspect about posting that kind of stuff. ;-)

I've been giving myself the Come to Jesus and your words are along the same vein.

Falling off the so-called wagon early out isn't just about slow weight loss, it is about basic recovery from a MAJOR surgery!

My confession is on Christmas Eve, 11 days after surgery, I sucked on 5 mini-Recees cups and a few orange chocolate sticks and a marshmallow Santa. Yeah. I could have just nibbled on a tiny edge of one of these things, but nooooo, I went whole hog.

My justification was that since it was so melty and slidey, it was *like* a puree..(nice try girl).. Besides, clearly stopping my weight loss in my tracks, it is dangerous!!

I hear you. Totally.

Of course, I am also worried in general about this being successful. Too much hunger, too much calling of carbs too damn early. Guess this will be more work than I thought it would be. :( (And please, don't tell me to get counseling for my f"ood issues").

LOL. Yes, we'll see. I get frustrated like everyone else, especially when vets are getting attacked for simply trying to offer common sense. But I'm pretty stubborn. And very used to repeating myself, as I'm a parent and a RN. LOL.

HAHAHAHA! Right? After I taught public school, I found myself repeating EVERYTHING I SAID. REPEATEDLY. I am also a parent. We repeat things/talk to ourselves a lot, don't we? ;)

You should tag this post to your 'signature line', like you do with the 'easy way out' one, as it is THAT helpful.

It also does not have the shaming aspect that so many of the responses to 'i ate xyz' that others post.

Like I said, I done messed up xmass eve, and had already got my own message and fear before I turned on the computer.

What I would love to see (just random talking, not directed at you), is weekly menu suggestions. I went to Pinintrest and was disappointed (ads, too much food porn, not enough heart of the matter). ..course I am just now starting puree, so I need to bide my time. LOL.

I m 12 days out & i did the liquid diet w/ 85% success, but i skipped the puree & combined step 1 & 3 no im on liquid & softfood ( appx. 3-4 well chewed up bites) i was too hungty i couldnt do 2 weeks puree, im guilty as charged

It was hard to stick to the plan, but I did it. 2 months out and I can basically eat anything with the exception of citrus fruit, dried fruit, caffeine, alcohol (@ 3 months) and steak, pork steaks, ham steaks, or liver (@ 6 months, but for the record...I will not be eating the liver).

Not judging, but in my personal experience...I did everything that I was told to do, because each step was so fleeting in the grand scheme. If I can't do something hard for 1, 2, or 8 weeks, how am I going to survive the rest of my life?

I was really fat for 23 years. It was really hard to live fat for that long...really easy to get that way, but HARD TO LIVE that life, physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

If you want to live something different, you've got to do something different. End of story.

I'm two weeks post-op, struggling with Protein drink "burn out" I get sick to my stomach just looking at the drinks now. What can I do tp get in my Protein? I have another 9 days to go in first stage. Also struggle with Constipation. Help

I was terribly sick of the Protein shakes by the end of my first 2 weeks as well. I found zip-lock style freeze pop tubes on Amazon and used them to freeze Syntrax nectar drink (roadside lemonade flavor) into freeze pops and would eat those. I used unflavored Protein powder in chicken and beef bouillon (the trick is to dissolve it in warm Water with a blender and then mix it with the hot bouillon) to get something more savory and not sweet. I drank apple cider (not an option for everyone because of the carbs, but maybe a Decaf herbal tea?) for something hot and sweet. I added unflavored Protein Powder to everything I could stand adding it to. (Didn't change the flavor, but changed texture for some things that I didn't like.) My surgeon included greek yogurt in the full liquids list, so I ate that for protein as well.

Another thing to keep in mind is that while it's GREAT if you can get the protein in the first couple of weeks, and you should certainly try to, the MOST important thing is the fluids. The body can get by with less than ideal protein for a while, but if you get dehydrated it can mean a trip to the ER, so if nothing else, get the fluids in.

For constipation, check with your team. I was advised to use a stool softener (Dulcolax) and if that didn't help in a day or two, to add Fiber to drinks (Metamucil) and if that didn't help to try Milk of Magnesia. And as a last-ditch effort if nothing else worked, I could try Magnesium Citrate. But my surgeon told me it's not abnormal to go several days between BMs early on after surgery because we're eating so much less bulk, and the high protein does tend to back us up. So not to expect a BM every day or necessarily even every other day. I've had to keep Fiber added to my diet daily since surgery to keep things regular and add in stool softeners periodically. My PCP gave me a recipe for a "fiber applesauce" but it calls for prune juice and I just can't stomach it.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
