Calorie intake still very low and yet I'm picking up weight! Intro to soft foods

Recommended Posts

How did you experience this? Did you pick up weight initially? My daily intake is still under 800 calories but I am still picking up as I introduce soft foods (veggies, eggs etc)

Any hints, tips or insight as to why ones weight could jump up as foods are introduced and did it rectify itself?

How fast along are you? How much weight? I always gain 3-4 pounds at that time of the month, but after a week it falls off and takes more with it.

When was your surgery? I didn't really start to lose until week 4 because of swelling and stuff. I was told to stay as close as I can to 500 calories per day. 500 wasn't enough so I upped to 600-700 and started losing. And I stopped losing rapidly when I didn't take in around 60mg of Protein per day. Doc said Protein promotes healing and weight loss. I hope that helps!

How much Protein, carbs, fat, and Water are you taking in each day? Without much to go on, I suspect you need to drink more water. If you are just now advancing to soft foods, you're a very recent post op. Put down the fork and pick up the water glass. Get at least 64 oz and wait 15 minutes after drinking before eating and one hour after eating before drinking.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
