So I'm over a year & a half pos op.. I just met the most incredible man a couple months ago and we are now dating and sexually active.. is there any birth control out there that is safe for me to take? Should I go ask my gynecologist about this or my bariatric surgeon? Please help!

I am not sure which one to go to but...be careful!! After you loose weight you may just be a Fertile Myrtle!! That is awesome meeting someone!! Good for you!

My dr office highly suggests some form of birth control for 18 months after surgery. After considering a couple of options, I went with the pill. As far as I know, there are not any forms of birth control that are not recommended for bariatric patients, but definitely ask your gynecologist. Also, I second the person who said be careful-- fertility can be increased after weight loss!

I highly recommend the Mirena IUD. It is awesome! It can be removed at any time if you wish to become pregnant, but it's good for 5 years. I will never use anything else.

I've worked in an obgyn office for the last 6 years and have seen MANY woman come in pregnant after losing x amount of weight. One girl was sleeved ... lost the weight and had back to back . She couldn't conceive before the surgery.

I second Mirena. You never have to think about it, and it stops periods. I love mine so much.

I hate Mirena. I have had it in 6 weeks and gained 6.6 pounds! I am having it removed today.

I agree with the Mirena. I had gotten my first Mirena at 18, went to have it replaced at the 5 year mark because I LOVED it, and it was a nightmare. They attempted insertion twice on two different days, each time over an hour of me in a pool of tears and in excruciating pain. I gave up and went on the "mini-pill"(no estrogen) because of high blood pressure and diabetes, and AFTER being sleeved, ended up having 2 strokes (at almost 6 months out from sleeve, not surgery related). I am 34 which also increases the risk of stroke on birth control pills. I went to a different Gyno's office and they agreed Mirena is the best option for me and convinced me to attempt it again. Success. I will only do Mirena from here on out.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
