Gastric Sleeve surgery - the reality

Recommended Posts

Loudow68 I'm v near Epping. I'm also going private. Just booked in to see a consultant I know at the Spire Hartswood hospital in Brentwood. Also comes with lifelong dietician and specialist nurse follow up.

It's good to hear how positive you are post op. I'm trying to work on my head hunger now. Was psychology part of ur package or is that separate?

Hey Evie

No it's was private .. I sought out a counsellor.. tbh the pre-op diet was a lot easier than I thought it would be .. and I have support with dietician. I've heard good things about Spire. You won't look back ! I do recommend getting a counsellor it really works for me .. I needed to really thrush out my food addiction .. and still doing it. My stomach and my head still occasionally have a "Mexican stand off".. but I'm a working process ., excuse the cheese .. but that's what I am! Let me know how you get on ! X

I was sick a few times when ate too much or liquid too soon after food. Not nice! Sleeved privately in August and lost a total of 50 lbs. I'm a slow loser and also finding it hard to give up wine..

Hiya

Lets start by saying that this is not a simple journey to undertake!

How you deal with it depends on how your mind set is.

I went down the NHS route and it took 2 years from start to finish and I have no regrets doing it that way. There was lots of preparation both mentally and physically.

As for the vomiting issue. Mine was happening on a daily basis but it was mostly mucus. This was caused by me eating food I was not really ready for and the body tried to compensate by producing more Fluid to wash it down, hence being sick. Its not pleasant but luckily there was no damage done. Lesson learnt for me was I needed to spend 6 weeks on the puree stage as opposed to the two weeks that were recommended.

We are all different and all have to learn

Good luck

Head hunger is hard to conquer. I'm not gonna lie I sometimes miss being able to eat a big plate of food but it's not something I dwell on and I don't have regrets at all.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
