My first of pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

Today is my first day and to say I'm hungry is an understatement. So far I've had two Protein shakes and 32 ounces of Powerade Zero and it's hard to get my mind off food. My protocol is 30 days on this diet. I just got back from the store with free food I can have pickles, celery, sugar-free Jell-O and cucumbers. I feel like I could make a meal of that. I get to have five Protein Shakes, 4 ounces of lean Protein, One cup of fruit and one cup of vegetable a day. 1 foot in front of the other I guess.

I know the pain. It was bad for about 4 days. Then it got so much better. Now I am post op and it is worse. I want something but it is hard to figure out exactly what.

I see every ones posts and you all talk about Protein drinks and cottage cheese and more. My Dr. says only skim milk broth sugar free Popsicle,Jello ,No Protein shakes ! just tea and thin liquids. Has anyone else had to do this? Oh and I have to do it for 21 days. I just don't know if this is possible ? My weight is 255 and my goal is 165. Please if you had to do this tell me how I can get past this.

This is weird and unhealthy, there would be muscle loss without protein for so long?

Would you double check with your doctor or nutritionist?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
