Hi I am 38 and I had RNY on July 21st 2015. My hw was 402. Right now I am 248. I love my decision. I have never thrown up and after my surgery I didn't have much pain b at all. One thing I did have was GAS! That made me so nervous and almost regret my decision. Eventually after gas strips and a good "poop" I felt better. One thing about me that's strange is I have NEVER gotten sick. I don't really eat much but I eat whatever I want just not much. I do make sure Protein is ALWAYS included in my meals. No shakes. .. yuck! When I did drink shakes slim fast protein chocolate shakes were my favorite. I sometimes get them when I do my pouch test b and fast for a few days. Otherwise I'm happy. I workout but need to do more. I don't drink when I eat. That hurts. I will say one thing though my stomach makes noise all day everyday. But for now I am very happy with my decision .I will help anyone who need help with their journey and or answer any questions.

Hi Draya402!

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I had the Gastric sleeve surgery March 15th 2016. I was 245lbs on day of surgery. December 15th will be 9 months. I did good in the beginning. Walked everyday, ate right, the shakes...all that. I have multiple sclerosis and walked with a walker. After I lost 30 lbs I started slowly walking without my walker.

You mentioned that you would help with any questions? I'm scared. I think I stretched my stomach a few months ago at a BBQ. I'm not sure of the amounts I'm supposed to be eating at 9 months but, I'm sure I'm eating more than what I'm supposed to be eating. I'm 170lbs. I'm 5'0. My goal weight is 145lbs. I've been stuck at 170 for a month. I live in Colorado and it's snowing and cold. I haven't been walking. (I'm sure that has a lot to do with it) I still try to make healthy food decisions.

My questions are...

1) How much should I be eating?

I eat a cup in a 1/2 of oatmeal with fresh walnuts and honey for Breakfast. Sometimes I'll even eat a boiled egg too. I'm just so hungry! That's pretty much my serving size on everything.

2) I'm feeling dizzy all day. I know I'm not getting in the recommended amount of fluids but, I'm peeing fine. I drink as much as I can. Can I still be dehydrated if I'm going to the bathroom all the time?

Sorry for the long text. The way my phone is, I can't see what I've written before hand. It makes it harder to stay on topic. Thank you for any advice.

Congratulations again on your progress!

Hi! I'm so glad you commented on my post. I just joined this discussion today. I love reading all similar stories that remind me of my journey. First let me day congrats on your weightloss! That is great! I also wanted to say you can't really pinpoint when you stretch your pouch out but you can tell when you ate too much because of that icky feeling. Did you dump or do you dump? oatmeal is good to have but I prefer cut steal oats. They don't swell as much and I put walnuts in mine. I don't really eat alot of it but I do sometimes put a little bit of unflavored Protein powder in it. Or I'll eat turkey bacon or veggie bacon with it for Protein. I sometimes eat a boiled egg and two slices of turkey bacon or organic turkey sausage. It just has this taste about it that i love. That's the only reason I LOVE that sausage. I can already Tell you why you are dizzy. You need more fluids and PROTEIN! Protein is so important because especially for you for your MS and your bone strength. Now the fun part... What's a good way to exercise when you can't get out. Omg.. I love videos! Leslie Sansone and Richard Simmons are thee best! Leslie has her videos panned out in miles. She does walkarobics by the mile. Please look her up. And Richard has fun videos like salsa and people of all sizes. By the way Sorry if i have typos my 5year old twins are fighting sleep. so in a nutshell up your protein, switch to steal oats, buy some unflavored Protein Powder, get in at least a gallon of Water day and Google Leslie. That Water helped me jump start my weightloss and I did a pouch reset once with skin fast Protein shakes a ton of water and all green leafy vegetables. Now please don't forget that dizziness would also be from your vitamins! That's a must. I take Iron faithfully also. If you have anymore questions please ask. Hope this helps.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
