Is anyone taking Alli?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I did a search for Alli and there were a lot of comments about it but I was wondering if anyone was actually taking it? Can it hurt the band? I honestly didn't have any issues on Xenical, I lost 10 lbs without changing a darn thing, but it was too expensive and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I'm thinking about trying Alli but I wonder if it would be okay with the band? Anyone have any experience with it?

What is alli? Is it a diet drug? There are a few threads about taking diet pills with the band if you are interested you can do a search for it, it might bring something up.

I am not banded, but have tried Alli. I got so caught up in reading all of the literature it comes with, about a novel's worth, that I somehow managed to mis-read the directions.

ONE pill.

Just ONE pill.

ONLY prior to a meal with LESS than 15g of fat.

I took two pills after eating at Sonic.:omg: I realize that eating at Sonic in and of itself is enough to cause explosive bowel movments, but the combination of the two were rather....startling. And lasted for three days.

Ok, I have to comment, but with a chuckle behind my covered mouth. I tried Alli when it was prescription only, 2 different times, (Xenical) and never completed one month's supply. I just wasn't in to wearing adult diapers.

I got the band because I didn't want another diet scheme. Now with my latest plateau, well I might try it.

But Alli has such bad sde effects, I'm not sure that is the answer for me. And I don't go to Sonic.

Why not just go back to the doctor to get another fill to try and take you past your plateau? To me that would beat wearing adult diapers all day! LOL

OK folks...I'm going to chime in AGAIN regarding Alli...

Alli only HALF the dosage of the prescription version. When taken as directed, it shouldn't cause the explosive reactions. I've taken Alli off and on for a while, until I reached optimal restriction (finally there I think!). I never had ANY of the episode's everyone (who hasn't even tried the OTC version) claims will happen. I suppose there is that person with "touchy" bowels that may experience issues, but for me, with normal bowels, I've had none.

I don't mean to sound cross or harsh...but I personally believe Alli is getting a bad rap.

Tulip... I will say that when taken as directed, that stuff really does work. Even during that experience it was impressive to me how it managed to really, ah, clear out the grease. :rolleyes

MusicalMomma.... Not sounding harsh at all. I think it is a good product. It was my bad for confusing the directions and adding to it that I made the drastic misjudgement of eating Sonic for Breakfast. ...Which is a drastic misjudgement anytime of the day, let alone at 6am with Alli.

Alli is great. Explosive, but great! I really got a kick out of this thread cause I know how explosive it can be. LOL, yeah I'm really not into wearing adult diapers yet either. I haven't tried alli on the band, but I did before. I still got some left too. I might try it. Yeah, it really clears that grease out of you!!!

I think I'm going to start the Alli again since I have my band now but I'm still 4 weeks away from getting a fill. I have followed the instructions and I haven't had too many "explosions". When I did, it was because I chose to eat something that I knew was probably over the limit and it was going to make me sick. It did and frankly it was my fault.

I was on phentermine many moons ago.... my doctor told me it has short term success only as your body adjusts to it. She had me take it M-F and take the weekends off to try and extend that effectiveness as long as possible.

I am not banded yet, but I took phentermine with awesome success (at first, hence the reason I am here). I lost 42 pounds in 6 months! Too bad, it wasn't permanent. I may try it again after I am banded, but before a fill. Will just have to see how it goes!

I loved how I felt on phentermine, and it worked...until it didn't work and I gained more than I had lost. That's how it goes. I got the band for the long term, because short term yo yo-ing was literally killing me. I also spent enough money on the band that I'm not spending it on alli and I'm not buying into any other weight loss fad. If I never lose another pound with the band, I'm happy. If I reach my goal weight, I'm ecstatic!

I agree with you Betsyjane. I got the band so I would quit buying into all those fad diet pills. Congrats on the weight loss!!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
