Nausea and no eating or drinking...

Recommended Posts

Im 2 months out. I'm am having such severe nausea that I'm not even eating anymore. I have lost 55 pds. If I have 12 oz of Water a day I'm lucky. I'm scared, I'm sick and the drs just keep telling me the "everyone's different". Please give me hope that this will stop moving forward...

You need to have a GI test to ensure that you have no stricture, you also need good anti sickness drugs to stop you vomiting.

I was the same as soon as I hit pureed the stomach didn't want to know. I returned last night after spending 3 days in hospital for dehydration and vomiting, now that stopped I have two different anti sickness tablets and a new anti acid tablet. Hope this helps.

What does your surgeon say? This is NOT normal.

The reason you are so nauseous is likely you are severly dehydrated. It can make you very sick and 12oz of Water is not nearly enough.

Call your doctors office, they can give you an IV of fluids and you will feel better. Also ask for zofran which will help with the nausea.

But, in the end you must must must get liquids in your body or the vicious circle will continue.

By the way, this is the #1 problem after gastric surgeries.

Best of luck to you!

As was said above

: 1) YOU have got to get your fluids in. Don't worry about much else right now, It does NOT take us long to become dehydrated!!!

2) You need to push your Dr into checking you out for STRICTURES this is a common for WLS PEEPS

3) Get meds for nausea!!

You are more than likely dehydrated so push your intake of fluids. It can't be stressed enough!! Good Luck!!

PLEASE CALL your team

I'm having the same issues as well. Today has been worse than any other day. Finally broke down and went to the ER only to be told there is a 5 hr wait. I returned home. I will put in and urgent call to my dr. I def think I have a stricture.

I have similar issue. I'm two months out. They scoped me and found out I have an ulcer. Hopefully now that they are treating the ulcer, relief will soon follow.

My surgery was 10/6 and I had severe nausea until recently. I was told it could last 3-6 months. I was dehydrated and admitted to the hospital 3 times since surgery to replenish fluids. My potassium was low each time, which could cause serious complications. Sodium was too high, white count was low, UTI, and other issues, which all can lead to nausea. Tests were run staples were loose and they removed them. It helped some but on top of what all was going on the relief didn't last long. I was on four nausea meds. The one that helped most in the end was Marinol. I'm still having problems getting Water and Protein in.

I hope things have gotten better for you.

lique The Marinol is that the THC pill? I was put on it many years ago for my pain. It didn't work hardly at all. You know they use it for Cancer Patients for nausea.

I use to be a Very heavy drinker (water). Now it takes me all day to get 12-16 oz of fluids! I can eat a tiny bit each day, but fluids?! I'm struggling! I'm having to force everything. I eat half a yogurt, and I'm full until lunch time! When I'm full I can't even drink.
I'm dizzy all the time! Just by bending to pick something up I get dizzy. Lack of nutrition and dehydration? That's what I'm thinking.
I'm regretting this whole thing!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
