How long before the "honeymoon" is over?

Recommended Posts

How long does the honeymoon period last? I have been averaging about 3 pounds per week for a while now and I'm ecstatic for that. Approximately how long does it take before weight loss "normalizes"?

Heh, I think I've posed this question before myself. I'm sure it completely varies from person to person.

I'm averaging out to a loss of 2.7 lbs /week at just over 5 months out. Which totally blows my mind and is way higher than I expected.

Hi all,

I am 5 years post op. I stopped paying attention after I got thin at about 10 months. So the "Honeymoon". Seems to fall off about then. ,your pyloric valve has relaxed and you are feeling good/looking good!

You have to keep going, do not think it will keep falling off (losing your hair as well). Keep exercising, keep drinking your Water and ALWAYS eat your Protein first.

I can eat a whole lot more now, I get hungry, made excuses and have gained 50 lbs back in about 3 years. I am back on this forum looking for inspiration to get back using my tool, and pray I can somehow regain more restriction. I never have gone back to drinking while I eat, I have never missed my Vitamins.

I did end up having 2 grand mal seizures, not certain but I am on medication which was when my weight gain began. I don't want any more excuses - I want my weight loss back.

If anyone would like to ask,any real life questions about the journey, feel free To ask just about anything :-) I am happy to share what I know.

I would say your weight will slow down the closer you get to your goal weight. You also know better than anyone as long as you've been on this forum that you can lose a lot one week, then nothing the next. That can last up to around 18 months. I continued to lose without really trying for 16 months.

The "Honeymoon" period more refers to that time when you notice you're hungrier than you were before and your capacity seems to increase to pretty much max capacity at least for a while. I hear (as the poster above 5 years out said) that the effects of the surgery are mostly gone at 5 years. Can you eat as much as before surgery? Of course not, but your capacity will be pretty much maxed out at that point.

Experts say the Honeymoon Period can last up to 18 months. I would say mine ended at around 18 months.

Thanks Babbs!

I had my cousin here and he is the size that I would like to be. He is 5'7" and 178 pounds. He is currently wearing 32x30 pants and a medium to large shirt depending on the manufacturer. I am also wearing 32x30 pants and I want to be on a large shirt. Obviously I will have excess skin is I won't look as good as he does but it did get me thinking. I don't know if it is possible but it would be awesome to get to that point by my birthday which is in the end of July but that would be losing 134 pounds in 11 months which sounds insane! Don't get me wrong, I will work like crazy to get there but I'm trying to figure out if that is an unrealistic goal because I would have to average 1.9 pounds per week over the next 33 weeks.

Hello been a while for me on here. I am closing in on seven months and am down 150 lbs to 215. I had expected to max out at this level but haven't yet. I still can't eat much. I am 6 foot and am now hoping to get down to 190. I exercise a lot by walking and biking but now need to start in at the gym with some weight training. I'm thinking that will slow my loss for a while.

Wow! Amazing! With me being heavy all of my life is is such an unreal concept to lose even the weight that I have so the thought of trying for a goal of 134 pounds in 11 months seems completely insane!

My goal is 185 pounds lost. I'm tall, I know that can make a difference. I haven't really set a time but 18 months sounds good.

I totally said that backward. Goal is 185. Need to lose 125. 55 of the way there!

For me, my honeymoon period ended after 6 months .....

I was a lower BMI though, but shifting the last few pounds/kilos is getting tougher and taking longer for me.

I am so close to goal ..... still not there yet.

"Are we there yet? Are we there yet?!" ..... LOL :D

At your current weight you are in the "normal" bmi range (according to your stats on the left). The goal of 178 is still an obese 27.9. If I can get lower that would be awesome but to be built like my cousin would make me quite happy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
