What are you most excited for after WLS?

Recommended Posts

So, I have surgery scheduled on December 19 (SO FREAKING HAPPY!), and the few people who know me have asked what I'm most excited for.

Aside from my lovely bag of Victoria Secret panties that I have never worn but oh so want to wear, my biggest excitement is for getting on a horse again. I used to horseback ride and compete, and I have signed up to be co-equestrian club advisor at the school I teach at in the spring. But, I haven't been on a horse in years because I'm terrified of hurting my favorite animal in the world. In fact, my friend had found a groupon for trail rides and wine picnic thing recently and talked about it as a belated birthday event for me, and I was too embarrassed to even answer her FB message.

So yes, that is the thing I am honestly most excited for.

What about you all?

Well...I have so many NSV's since my RNY!!! Being able to exercise, sitting with my Grandchildren in my recliner with room left over, shopping!!! I used to hate to go shopping now HHHMMM I think I love it too much!!! Setting a good example for my grandkids and my daughter, feeling good, less pain, kind of happy in my own skin (sometimes) Not feeling like I am the biggest person in the room (sometimes) I am working on this!! And like you I am a past Horseback rider!! I might try it again. Now if only my mind catches up with my weight loss things would be so much better. I hope it will come. CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming WLS!!!

Beside having normal blood pressure and my PCOS under control. I look forward to fitting some cloths I brought when I weighed 100 lbs less and also doing extreme sports that I couldn't do because of my weight.

I really want to do yoga again. I am just too heavy to do it without causing pain. Oh, and to wear a belt someday. Maybe a pair of riding boots that aren't wide-calf?

I would love to get back into hiking again. I tried kayaking a few years ago and I loved it except that I couldn't fit into the life jacket comfortably. I would like to kayak without all of my bulky fat.

My sleeve surgery was in October 2015.

It didn't take long for me to lose track of what I was most excited about after wls. No kidding.

So much was rushing at me and all of it good.

It was a slam trip to have to repeatedly clean out the closet and take clothes to Goodwill and the like.

This summer found me using borrowed or rental kayaks and enjoying hours slipping around the nearby Savannah River or Augusta Canal. Fishing or simply enjoying being out there.

I have a fairly decent mountain bike that I'm looking forward to riding this winter.

As a tall guy, but no longer a "bigger & taller" guy, lol, I'm looking at car choices for my next car....some of them are radically different than I once considered when I was Sasquatch sized. :D

Hah, that would not be a bad thing, exchanging those for a smaller size! You should totally horseback ride. <3 It is one of the best thing ever; it feels like flying at times. =] And congrats on your surgery! Everything is going well for you?

I did yoga in the past, and I had loved it. When is your surgery?Or, when was it? Yes, I would love riding books that weren't wide-calf...in fact, any boots at all that weren't wide calf!

Being able to cross my legs and two cancel of my Lane Bryant card and use my Victoria's Secret and New York and Company

I cannot wait to get rid of my Lane Bryant credit card...and, as much as I love Torrid, I want to get rid of that card as well!

On thing I already did was get a new "skinny person" car. I was going to wait till spring but my 2001 PT cruiser committed suicide.

I got a Mini Cppper, and not one of those larger ones made for the American market. I'm 64 and this might be the last car I ever buy..ot tso I got the "fancy pants" options package. Chrome, leather, leather, heated seats, satellite radio....

I couldn't fit in the seat with the arm rest down until 2 weeks after my surgery. I am still trapped in the hospital with this facial palsy and lymes disease thing but I think I will probably be able to raise the seat when I get out (it's a low as it can go right now) because I am definitely losing butt fat!

Non-elastic waist pants. I almost want to have a ceremonial "burning of the fat pants" but perhaps someone out there shopping at Goodwill really needs some elastic-waist work pants! There's a pair hanging on the back of my closet door right now. I had bought them from the Gap several years ago. I can't wait until they're in my rotation again.

Finding a new 2XL coat in the closet this morning. It's been in there forever. Cut the tags off and am wearing for the road trip today.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
