FMLA and Short-term disability

Recommended Posts

I know that I'll need to ask my surgeon when I see him, but thought I would see what all of you say. Do most surgeons approve FMLA and Short-term disability?

I'd love to go back sooner, but my job is really physically demanding. I make guns, and the motions of pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting and standing on my feet for 12 hours made my surgeon want to keep me out until I'm completely healed.

Do you have a physically demanding job? Just wondering because my surgery is November 30 and just wondering what I may need to ask for. My job isn't very demanding but I am concerned about the 50 minute commute and feeling tired or sore.

I'm hoping to just be out 2 weeks but am worried about driving and the long commute. I do have the option of working from home if I feel up to it so that would help me to not use all of my sick and vacation time. But I will do what my doctor says to do because he knows best and I don't want any complications.

Same here. Did you doctor make you take four weeks? Did you have any complications that caused you to be out that long? I go for my preop appointment with my surgeon on Friday so hopefully I will know how long I will be out then. I have my fmla paperwork ready for them to fill out for me.

That's what I'm afraid of. Being tired and having no energy. That's not good when you have a long commute either.

My surgeon said he would write me out as long as I wanted! But he said he expected me to need 3 weeks. I have a desk job.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
