Animal Based Protein Problem

Recommended Posts

First off I will contact my doctor. However I want to hear from you guys on this and how you dealt with it.

I was able to eat meat, like steaks chicken, lean pork, ground meats up until about week ago. I'm not sure why but now animal Based Proteins hurt or sit like a rock in my stomach. Its,taking an hour or more for that heaviness pain to go away. I hate that feeling. I am chewing throughly, taking my time eating, serving the proper portion for this stage of my diet. I've even just ate a couple of bites and still had the feeling. I've been trying to eat plant based proteins and or depend on my GENEPRO. Since I don't really have an experience on eating a vegetarian style, I'm struggling. I Pintrest recipes and read up on it however I worry if I am going to eat too many carbs or not get enough protien . My team pushes eating good proteins pretty hard. I do understand why. I just don't get how I can go from eating and tolerating to not being able to.

I was sleeved 9/19/16. No real issues other than the normal bitching and moaning newly sleeved folks grapple with.

I appreciate your input. Thanks

You are what, less than two months out? I had a hard time eating any kind of meats when I was only two months out. It does get better, my NUT told me to use a lot of gravy or Condiments. You need to make sure the meat is very tender. Sometimes we just have to wait a few more weeks before our stomach will accept it- even if it was ok last time.

I stuck with thin sliced lunch meats for a while before moving on to denser Proteins.

I followed my plan. I was able to transition from mush to solids as tolerated around 10/19. I was fine at first but now not so much. I am giving those goods a rest and try again later. I find it confusing how it can be fine then not.

@@busybeebug I had my surgery June 21st and my stomach started rejecting meat about a month ago. Not sure what the deal is, but I'm almost completely on dairy, Beans and Protein powder right now.

meat, pork in particular, has made me foam, slime and vomit...not exactly craving it right now, but I've been told this is probably a phase and will change.

My sleeve seems to go in cycles. eggs didn't go well at first, now they're fine. Some days the Protein shakes sit like a rock, other days meats tend to.

I was raised vegetarian, and ate a lot of the Loma Linda (http://lomalindabrand.com/) and Worthington (which I just found out got bought out by Loma Linda) products. On a whim I ordered a couple of cans of stuff I liked as a kid from Amazon and am finding that they are sitting MUCH better in my sleeve. Might be worth a try.

Fair warning: vegetarian meat replacements don't taste like meat. They don't have the texture of meat. Don't expect them to. If you treat them like their own food product and don't expect them to taste like the meat they replace, they can be quite good, though some people never get used to the smell/taste/texture.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
