What area are you on? Where are you having your surgery? Maybe there is someone in this group that could assist:)

I live in Tucson, it's the fact that everyone I know works and can't be there for me as there is no set day or time I will be discharged. If I can't get 64 ounces of Water down the first day I have to stay and extra day. I live o. A miniscule income and can't afford Uber or a cab. I have to give my ins co 48 hours ahead of a request for a free cab. So im in a catch 22 situation. I'll stop taking the pain meds the first day so that my system is clean and I can drive by the second day. Or ask the hospital if they have a free ride home system.

I couldn't imagine driving after surgery. I drove myself today to some Dr appointments (it's my one week post op) and I'm still sore from it. Train tracks, potholes, speed bumps, and sudden stops really don't feel very good.

I really hope you can come up with a solution other than not taking pain meds just so you can drive right away. You will likely need them for a couple of days at least. And, getting 64 oz of Water the first day is unheard of. That will likely be an impossible task.

A hospital isn't going to make you sit on the curb until your ride can pick you up. So perhaps a friend could be on standby to pick you up after they get off work.

The max of fluids I was able to get in on day 2 was 16 oz. Nausea and pain were always present. I think most will agree that you won't be in any shape to stop pain meds. You are about to have MAJOR surgery! I easily think you will be able to give your insurance 48 hours notice. Good luck!!

I was hoping your surgery was the end of Dec. I'll be in Tucson for Christmas. I would come get you.

Tell the hospital your situation and they can release you in the evening when someone is off of work. Good luck.

Not sure if you stayed at the hospital for a few days, but mine was done outpatient so it wasn't allowed. Took a couple of days for the anesthesia to wear off.

Please, don't drive. reach out to someone. Hospital volunteers, the place you bank, any church, a police department senior volunteer. You don't need to go through the pain. hopefully, someone in the Tuscan area can hook you up or help. Even the nurses from your dr office and tell them you'll give some a ride, they just need to ask you. Now you have me thinking. Uber does have first ride free coupons.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
