Im thinking about this surgery

If you search success stories on this site you will likely get alot of information.

I was 51 when I had RNY gastric bypass. I chose bypass over sleeve because I suffered from GERD and RNY is know to cure it. I also had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and stage 3 kidney disease.

I am 5'10" and at my heaviest weight was 315 lbs.

I lost a 152lbs in 18 months and reached my goal this past march. I went from a size 26 to a size 8/10.

Best of all I no longer have GERD, sleep apnea, high BP or high cholesterol. My diabetes has been in remission since the day I had surgery and my stage 3 kidney disease has been in remission since 3 months post op.

For me, having this surgery was the best thing I ever did.

I had no complications and I believe that is because I followed doctors orders to the letter.

I was scared when i started mostly because of all the required change but once I started the process i kept my goals top of mind and they literally drove me.

Best of luck to you!

I'm 3 weeks out Wednesday Tijuana Mexico was amazing experience for me and my friend that went with me everybody was so nice Dr. Ortiz is amazing you won't find anyone better there was no pain at all when I come out of it got up and walked then always got up and walked anytime because I wanted to show them I wanted to go back to the hotel it was a wonderful wonderful experience I would look up Dr. Ortiz the reason why I heard him is because he took the other doctors had to do it he's originally from San Diego California is where his office is but he goes to Mexico to perform surgeries for patients who can't afford it

I'm only two weeks out on sleeve but off of three of my four diabetes medications!! I was taking five insulin shots daily and now I'm on two and even that will likely improve bc sugar levels are going down more and are mostly near normal when I check. I lost 20lbs thus far and no major complications as of yet. They also knocked the diuretic off my blood pressure pill and lowered the dose if the bp pill to ten mg which I believe is the lowest dose! Tge really cool thing is that my surgeon had felt before my sleeve that I would not get a remission of diabetes or a significant improvement..just some improvement due to years of having it plus years of insulin dependency!! I'm stoked!!

I have no regrets even though I had wanted RNY originally due to high BMI and increased difficulty getting it all off with the sleeve but my need for corticosteroids at times and pain med requirements. Psych meds etc made me a bad candidate for RNY since it screws up your ability to handle many medications.

I'm looking forward to seeing less of me... still learning the food ropes but ecstatic!

I'm seven years out. Day of surgery I weight 384lbs. Earlier this week I logged 170lbs. I LOVE MY DS. As long as I'm good to it, it's good to me. The first couple of years I was feeling it out. Had a couple of mishaps. You do have daily visits with the porcelain throne. That's to be expected with this surgery. But I found that frequency and consistency is all diet controlled, at least for me. As long as my diet is high in good quality edible Protein and low glycemic carbs, all is normal and well.

Hopefully this image shares properly. This is a small collage of my before and after pics.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
