Look Out! It's the Food Police!

Recommended Posts

I swear sometimes I just want to scream! :) Tonight after dinner (I'm still on pureed foods) my mom came out with these Fake-out cannoli's from Rachael Ray. Which is a fat free cannoli filling in a sugar cone. Knowing that I can't have the sugar cone, I knew there was more of just the filling in the fridge. So I asked my mom if I could try "a little". She said I could, but as I pulled it out of the fridge my sister made this look and rolled her eyes at me. :rolleyes I asked her what the problem was and she kept telling me nothing. Yet you know she was giving me this look that I shouldn't be having any of it. All I had was just over a teaspoon size in a tiny dish.

Later I find out that she went to mom all "concerned" that I shouldn't have been eating it. My mom, thank goodness, stuck up for me and told her not to make anymore comments and that I'm capable of making my own decisions, and that the dessert was fat free anyway.

Why is it that whenever other people know you're on a diet (or now have the band) and are trying to lose weight there are those certain people that feel they have to be your food police. My word! You'd think I was picking up a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese.

I really wish some people would worry about their own eating habits and leave mine alone. I'm doing just fine so far.

Some people expect you to fail and don't want you to succeed even though they say they do. I was just banded on the 29th and several times since he has asked me if I ate yet knowing I am on only liquids until later this week. Sometimes it can be just a simple case of jealousy, keep your goal in mind and try not to let her get to you.

My mom does the same thing in a different way .

Shortly after my surgery when i got on solids we went to eat at a burger place, I ordered a chili cheese kids burger w/ no bun and had 2 onion rings from my sisters plate. My mom says " SO you can eat that " I told her " I can eat what ever i want , the fact of the matter is THIS IS a better choice than what i would have made 3 months ago which would have been a regular burger and ALL of it and a WHOLE order of onion rings "

I tell her ' YOU worry about what your eating and i'll worry about what im eating.

I do find alot of it though is curiosity , my mom is surprised i can eat relatively "Normal" and still loose weight .

which i can understand . But i still hate it .

Hang in there and tell em to mind their own business LOL

Love

Mindy

(Shaking head) I feel for you, sweetie. Geez, I'm still on liquids for another week but if I were in your place I would hate that.

My hubs has been very supportive and even nags me to eat more (drink rather lol). My mom has been a bit funny about it. She keeps nuerosing over all the things I can't have anymore. I'm like mom, ys, I may get pissed for about a minute if my body rejects something I love later down the road but I can still have what I like just not as MUCH of it.

I think part of the trick seems to be not to deprive yourself because when all of us did just that on all these diets over the years we'd end up binging.

If you take a bite or two usually it will satisfy that craving. I agree completely with the choice you made. Well done!

I personally don't mind my close friends or family inquiring...because I know they love me and support me...BUT...

Last weekend, I went to a wedding (my close friend's brother). We drove 4.5 hours to get there (mainly to see my friend who I hadn't seen in over a year). Well, the next day, my friend's dad and his new-ish wife, invited us to go out on his yacht for the day. So, of course DH and I jumped at the opportunity. His wife, who I met for the FIRST TIME, and NEVER told that DH and I had surgery...was commenting all day with crap like "Oh you can only eat a teaspoon at a time" and "We should go 'here' to eat, they have a salad bar with cottage cheese, so you guys can eat". I finally looked at her and said politely, I can eat anything you can eat, just less of it. That finally shut the biotch up! My friend was SO embarrassed and apologized for telling them about it. She told them because SHE is having WLS next month and brought us up in her discussion with her dad.

Some people have NO cuthe!

It never ends. I had it happen again today, but at work during lunch, with my co-workers/friends. :hungry: I was having my nice small portion of scrambled egg beaters and started to put a little salt on them. "Can you have that?" I said 'yeah, a little bit'. Then came the pepper. "Can you have that?" I gave the same reponse. Then I wanted a little ketchup. My friend Jason says "Should you be having ketchup with all the sugar that's in it?"

'Yes', and then proceeded to tell him to mind his own eating habits because I'm doing just fine with mine. 'So back off!':omg:

I know that partly they are joking, especially since they started calling me skinny. Can we say oxy-moran?! I know they're trying to be supportive, but they're starting to grate my nerves and I've only been back to work for one whole week after a 3 week medical leave.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
