When do we get to go to a regular diet? I was sleeved 10/26/16 and I'm finishing my last few days of full liquids. Then I have 2 weeks of pureed then I go to soft diet but it doesn't say how long the soft diet lasts before going to regular foods. What does everyone else's program say?

I started on solids week 5, however my surgeon made sure he met with me before then to discuss my progress and shared tips and advice.

9 weeks but it's hardly a "regular" diet.

60 grams of Protein (avoid red meat at first) divided into 4-6 meals plus however my much veggies I can add without feeling over full. Estimated 4oz of volume to start moving up to 6 oz as tolerated.

I was on soft foods until 6 months post-op, then transitioned to a "regular" weight loss mode that still severely restricted the type of food I could eat (no grains, no starchy veggies, no tropical fruit, etc.). As you can see from the responses here, programs vary a lot. You'll definitely want to check in with your own team to get clarification from them as to what your program calls for. Good luck!

Mine was week 5, allowed anything if tolerated.

Week 8 is the last week of food stages on my plan, so the short answer would be Week 9; however, there are several things you can't have until much later on my plan (steak at 6 months for example) and some things that you are to avoid forever (doughy things, dried fruits, Pasta, rice, etc.).

I personally am following low carb (even as I go through the food stages), so Week 9 and beyond won't look much different than Weeks 6-8 for me.

This is my plan, of course, and it doesn't take long browsing on here to see that everyone's plan is different. I'd reach out to your nutritionist and ask.

Good luck!

8 weeks here for me as well. I am also following low carb but it will be nice to have some ground turkey or a piece of chicken.< /p>

I wasn't allowed most veggies for 6 months. (Not "calling you out", just using your plan as an example vs mine. ;) ) I was also on 2-3oz at a serving and FULL was not an option.

To the OP.

Every plan is different. Check with your surgeon.

Maybe you can help me b/c my plan is similar. The rule is stop eating as soon as you stop feeling hungry.. but for me that's usually like 2 bites. How am I supposed to get in enough Protein if I'm stopping eating at 1 oz?

I had to eat small and eat often. It took me about 9 months to start hitting my protein goals and I still struggled with liquids, too. It taught me to graze which could be good/bad. I am 3.5 years out and still do 6ish "meals" a day. No choice. If I make bad choices, it's bad. If I make good choices, it's great!

Good to know. They want me to get to a point soon where I'm eating 3 meals a day and I just can't imagine handling that volume any time in the near future. Maybe I'll end up being a snacker too.

My plan was 6 weeks "anything" goes. But I don't eat veggies (I think I can just now tolerate some carrot sticks with hummus, fingers crossed!) - I have lettuce less salad that contains boiled egg and chicken bits from the salad bar.

I eat as much Protein as I can through food - but I've found that I can't eat as much as I need. Soups are still very nice on my sleeve. dinner was chicken that marinated for a longggg time. Just chicken - no room for anything else.

Teeny tiny bites. No "sides" with meals. I definitely am nowhere near a normal diet. I got a bit brave (still completely on plan), and it made me feel horrible.

I'd definitely listen to everyone's recommendations here - they're the best group!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
