Sleeve while on hormone replacements (post hysterectomy)

Recommended Posts

Hello, My name is Brittany and I am going through the appointment process of the Sleeve surgery. I am terrified of having the sleeve and then not being able to lose weight due to the hormone replacements I'm on. I've had 9 surgeries in 8 years which has caused me to gain weight after each one. The big one was when i had to have an emergency hysterectomy 2 weeks into being 22 and they took everything (ovaries, uterus) causing me to go on hormone replacements. I gained 25 lbs just in 1 MONTH after this surgery and it has gone up from there. Has anyone had any experience with this? I just need some people to talk to and ease my mind.

I don't see any reason you can't lose weight with the sleeve, I had a hysterectomy last year and I'm having the sleeve done on mov 28 , had to stop taking my hormones 1 month prior to surgery

I wear HRT Patches, had to stop using them 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after surgery. Then went straight back on them.

My weight loss has been fine. I also came of BP tablets (High BP) so another bonus ... yayyyy

Best of luck in the process!

Kate :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
