*Food Addiction, Who's an Addict?*

Recommended Posts

I just have a question about your food addiction.................

If you know you are a food addict, what is that food, and since being banded, have you abstained from your addiction?

My addiction is FAST FOOD and I haven't eaten it since November 2005. Do I miss it? Because of my weight loss results not at all. When I smell the grease, I know that I am still addicted. I want to just lick it but to start this journey all over again and relearn the meaning of food and how important it is to eat healthy to be successful, no thank you. I have a new lease on life and I have finally figured out how important it is to EAT TO LIVE AND NOT LIVE TO EAT................... I only wish that it didn't take me 35+ years to figure that one out.

My new ADDICTION? Staying physically fit. Everytime I see a vein popping out of my arm while exercising or my thigh muscle protruding while doing squats or lunges it is such an exhileration for me. I even quit smoking December 25, 2006.

You're doing awesome!

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

You've had no fills? Do you have natural restriction or did the Band just get you into the right mindset and you don't really use it?

Congratulations Josephine! I'm a food addict and won't be banded until Oct. 31st . I'm very hopeful that this tool will help me along the way. I was a "hardcore" smoker (1 1/2 pks a day....UGH!) But I quit on Jan. 4, 2006. I hope that, even being a food addict, I'll be able to do what it takes to get this excess weight OFF!!!! Wish me luck! :) Thanks for your thoughts!

Wow! I'm impressed Josephine. Your success is inspiring.

I'm a food addict. I'm addicted to lots of things. I've learned to live with my addictions and my new credo is "moderation". If I must have ice cream or pizza or chocolate or whatever.........I have it, but I have very specific limits that I hold myself to. I only allow myself 1 or 2 mini or snack size chocolates and I dish out enough of the other risky items to satisfy, but not enough to fill.......so I don't go overboard. I box the rest up and put it away or give it away. It's by doing this that I NEVER feel deprived and my own eating disorder is under control.

"One day at a time" is the way we all must deal with any addiction whether it is food, alcohol, drugs or an activity/obsession.

Good luck to all of my fellow addicts!

Candle,

I finally got the right mindset and also refused to allow food to run my life anymore. I was so tired of the roller coaster with my weight. I still though have the ability to go to the doc. and start having fills if I go back to my old ways. There will be no going back to the 251 lbs. that I was. I now have my TOOL that will help me stop before I would ever go over board again.

Josephine

Thanks for the congrats now because I can finally say I have maintained for over a year and that is what counts to me.

DDiedre,

I am so happy you are able to moderate yourself. I know that I can't so that is why I chose to stay away. I still do not trust myself. Thank you for the congrats.

Well Done Josephine; and you did all this without a FILL? That's incredable..

I too am a food addict, my major obsession is with SUGAR it is an aweful culprit for me to avoid. At least with the BAND I can't pig out on it... I get full THANK GOD.

But my ultimate goal is to NOT have it be part of my healthy diet at all... I am working towards that!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
