Pre-op Liquid Diet/Liver Reduction

Recommended Posts

Today is day 3. I'm feeling better. As per my serve in I have to keep it struck with the 4 Bariatric fusion shakes a day and a half cup of non starchy vegetables once a day. My required Water intake is 60 ounces. I have met that or surpassed it. I can't stand the broth. I tried it last night..... I'm still taking it hour by hour but today is better than yesterday

Hi Kitty, you are doing great hang in there! I'm day 10 of the pre op shakes. First 4 days were the worst for me. I get through by avoiding food all together if people bring food near me I find a reason to leave the room. I'm on the Optifast and I have a shake for Breakfast & lunch, dinner is a shake or Optifast chocolate bar. I get by with diet cordial, sugar free lollies, sugar free jelly but only use them when I'm really struggling. My dietician said the best thing for me to stay on track... I ask what if you don't lose fat in the liver? She said if it really is too much liver fat the surgeon has chosen not to operate... that line replays in my head every time I even think about food! My surgery just got moved forward a day so I'm in on Thursday 10th Nov and counting down the days!!

I'm scheduled for surgery 11/9 and I'm on my Liver reduction diet. This is my second day and I am truly hungry. It's not head hunger! I'm having headaches and feel drained. I'm doing 4 Protein shakes a day and each of them are 27 grams of Protein. I'm also consuming a minimum of 60 ounces of Water. Why am I so hungry and how can I get rid of these headaches??? Please help I don't thinking I can last 10 days feeling this way.....

I hope you are doing better today. I am on my 2 day pre-op diet, and I am feeling very tired. Ugh. Come on 10 days. The broth with some seasoning really helped on day 1. Good luck to you.

Hello Jenny Yes I am doing so much better today. I'm feeling ok actually. I started weighing 323 on 10/30/16 and I am now at 313 as of today. I haven't even worked out! I only started taking the stairs at work. I encourage you to stick with it. I'm actually considering post poning my surgery to give myself 1 final try to do it on my own incorporating the new things I've learned from this journey. I'm not sure yet..... But hang in there!

I was drinking 4 of the Bariessentials shakes mixed with almond milk and I was so sick. My stomach was upset and my head hurt so bad. I talked to the PA at my surgeon's office and she said to go back to Premier Protein shakes. They really are the best, and I feel 100% better after switching back. I was also told to make sure I DON'T get the low sodium broth because the sodium is needed to stave off the headaches.

I really didn't mind the taste! And I liked that I could add powdered Peanut Butter and stuff to it to change the flavor up. It just didn't agree with me.

I was in the same boat with those. They didn't taste bad but my problem was the smell of the Protein Powder. It made me not want to drink them. I like the fact Premier Protein is already mixed so I don't have that issue.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
