Nausea seven weeks out

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 9/7 and aside from some bad nausea the first few days (for which I was given a patch behind my ear to settle the effects) I haven't had many issues. Now, I've been feeling terrible nausea for the past three days. Getting in all of my Protein and Water, but it hasn't really subsided. Does anyone have any insights? Planning to call my surgeon, but wanted to check here also.

Would love to hear what your doctor says. I had zero nausea until 8 weeks- I am currently 11 weeks and it is still here. Everything grosses me out- every food and even Water. It's been horrible the last few weeks. I just got a prescription for zofran but didn't really want to take it ( I will but I just want it to go away- scared I will get hooked taking zofran)

Anyway I saw my doctor about week 9 1/2 and he said " while most people don't experience this it is still under the normal range . " not helpful

Definitely not pregnant and haven't changed anything in my routine at all-eat the same things, Water, Vitamins, etc. No other symptoms besides the nausea and it doesn't necessarily coincide with eating/drinking.

Spoke with the doctor today and he did say to try zofran just for the next two days. Said if it doesn't resolve by Sunday morning that I should call back and they would probably want to do an endoscopy to check things out (which scares me a lot Bc my first endoscopy experience was far from pleasant).

@@tenseintexas I also just want it to go away-I've never been a medication person, but if it helps this to pass quietly, then I'm willing to try! Just took a half a pill and heading back to my sales floor to finish the last few hours of my workday-wish me luck!

I didn't mean get hooked on it like a drug addict. I mean I know of a person who has had this surgery that says she is very dependent on it and has been taking it for awhile .

@@aligator517 wow- my doctor was so blasé about it- like didn't think it was a big deal at all I wish mine was more proactive

oic ..lol..ok I was wondering.. well I suppose if she is still nasceous then she should still be on it. I guess some ppl experience more nausea than others. Before I got chronic Migraines, I never or rarely experiences nausea but now I get it easily and have a ongoing order for anti emetics even before my sleeve. Lol

So the nausea went away after taking one pill and I didn't end up taking another-it faded away on it's own. Now though, I've felt some pretty strong pains in my lower abdomen since Sunday afternoon. I thought maybe it was gas pain so I took a laxative to help move things along. Laxative worked just as it should (except for waking me at 4am), but now pain remains. Any ideas? I'm getting a little nervous Bc things have been smooth thus far and I just hope there isn't some problem that I'm not addressing.

Turns out it's appendicitis and I'm back in the hospital awaiting surgery

Oh no you poor thing! How are you? Was this caused by the sleeve do they think? Hope you are doing better

Thanks everyone! I absolutely thought the pain was related to my sleeve, so I was completely shocked to learn it was appendicitis and not related at all. My baritatric team was involved-came down to the ER and took a look as well as looked at the CT to make sure there weren't any obstructions in my sleeve. They said it was a total coincidence and very very rare that this would happen as related to the sleeve. I think the sleeve really saved me though-under normal circumstances I would NEVER go to the ER for some pain in my belly-I only went because I was afraid it had something to do with the sleeve-talk about divine intervention!!

My nutritionist also called after surgery to advise me on diet-said I should go back to stage 1 and stick with just shakes for about 4-5 days. And, of course, just two weeks after I started back with intense workouts at Orange Theory, now I need to go easy for another six weeks while my new wounds heal on top of my "old" ones.

But, all in all, I feel so lucky to have caught this before something very bad happened. We all know surgery is no picnic, but at least my sleeve helped me to catch it early!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
