Feeling sleepy ALL the time

Recommended Posts

So I'm almost 6 months post-op, MGB (the reason I'm posting this question here is because I rarely get an answer in the MGB section) I've noticed in the past 3 weeks that I'm feeling extremely sleepy almost all the time. Iron levels, hemoglobin, B12, D3 and thyroids are all within normal. Could this be something related to my surgery, Vitamin deficiency or something completely different??!!

Have your thyroid checked (TSH)? I was very tired before I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Medication worked immediately. This was pre surgery.

I'm almost 6 months out and I'm the same way. I'm just exhausted 24/7. To be fair I was typically tired before surgery too but everyone said you'll get a new found energy after all the weight loss and proper eating - that never happened to me. I'm just more tired than before even on 30mg daily of adderall (a stimulant so I should feel wide awake) I can take a nap.

Well finally!! I have the same problem and I had my surgery May 2014. Blood panels, everything is normal but I am so tired, fatigued is more the word for it. Everyone talks about so much more energy but I sleep an average of 8 hours a night with 2 or 3 naps during the day. I'm at a loss!!

Your not alone! I too am always tired. I actually went to my PCP last week complaining about it and he said all my labs look fantastic. Suggested getting a couple two pound weights and doing 10sets of things to get blood to my muscles. See if that helps. Maybe lack of exercise (which I have to admit I don't do) so energy levels will be lower

Lots of thoughts on this topic.

Vitamin D/Winter - I am always more tired in the winter and my Vitamin D levels go down. I try to take a supplement but they have to be combined with sunlight exposure.

Water/dehydration? Maybe increase fluids.

Caffeine - I know people might not like this but I have to use caffeine. The sugar free Mio energy drops. I run a high calorie deficit and need the help. Don't go overboard with it but it can be helpful.

sleep tracker? Getting enough sleep?

Exercise also helps me feel more energized. An endorphin boost.

Meditation sometimes helps me but sometimes I fall asleep trying to meditate.

Too much in your schedule? Maybe it is time to drop something.

I wish you luck. I feel tired often and hate it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
