Should I postpone? Anyone had the single incision gastric sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I am due to have a single incision gastric sleeve next Friday, but now my mother is coming to visit less than a week after. She hasn't visited since I moved here and is staying for 10 days. I want to be able to do stuff whilst she is here. Is there anyone here who had the single incision (laparoscopic) procedure? How did you feel a week in? Were you sleeping ok? Mobile?

Its over an hour drive to the airport, did anyone have trouble driving after 6 days?

My best friend is also coming to visit 3 weeks after the surgery. I'm wondering whether or not I should postpone, this would mean I won't have it for another couple of months and I was really looking forward to getting going.

Any thoughts?

Personally I would not. I think I would get derailed and might be hard to get going again...something else might come up and then something else. I would hope they are coming because they love you and enjoy your company. Go to the movies, picnic, gentle walk and other low key activities. I'm sure they would not need to be entertained and wouldn't want you to change your very significant self improvement plan.

I would wait if for no other reason than surgery is not the priority for you right now. I flew my folks out right after surgery but that was so they could help me as I recovered not to go site seeing or to entertain them.

I haven't been sleeved yet but when I was 17, I had 4.5 hour abdominal open surgery, I was on a pain pump after and even though I was young I was in the hospital a little over a week....when I got home on oral pain pills omg girl it was awful. I could hardly sit up and down without holding on to something. Going poo.. ouch... walking in sneakers on cement ouch... those stomach muscles take time to heal and it's painful. I had zero stamina and could only do very short trips out.

I can't imagine needing open surgery plus the confines of the diet plus managing company!!!!

Unless open surgery is different now, idk... it was pelvic stomach belly button down but I figure as a teen-ager, I had the best advantage...si that's my two cents

My surgery was my number one priority, and I wanted it done as soon as possible. My mother actually stayed a week with me after surgery to take care of me and help me out. I don't think you'll be up to entertaining someone a week out. I was driving and going out a little bit but they were short trips and I got tired quickly.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
