Encouragement for the hungry new postops

Recommended Posts

So today was my first day of zero hunger. Yep, that's right I said zero! No head hunger, no real hunger, nothing. At 6pm I realized that I hadn't eaten a bite and not thought about it all day! Yes I know that's not good but I will now have to remind myself to eat. This is a learning process but I feel I hit a milestone today. My NUT and several people on here have said that the head hunger will soon go away as long as I didn't feed it. Finally at exactly 7 weeks post op, it happened. Now I can finally, for the first time in my life, eat to live and not live to eat. When I did finally eat it was 730pm and I still wasn't hungry. I had to make myself do it because I knew I was well overdue. I took a 60g Protein shot at 7am and a 30g protein shot this evening so I got my protein in for sure. Hang in there hungry people it gets better. I've had a rough go and every single day gets better. Oh, by the way, whoever has read my previous neurotic posts, MY scale STARTED MOVING AGAIN!

I was preoccupied with food the first week or so, that "head hunger" or mourning process everyone seems to go through. But I really thought about it a lot the first couple of weeks and how dominated I was by food, and it started to ease up. I'm now getting used to the new eating behavior and I really don't think about it that much anymore...which is a good feeling. I finally feel like I'm going to be able to shake the influence of food that has controlled me for so long. Very nice.

Head hunger is a b@tch! So glad that it seems I have finally overcome it. I even went to the store and packed my friend a care package (she is in the hospital) full of junk food and candy. Drove 2 hours with it all sitting next to me and had zero desire to eat it. Doesn't even sound appetizing to me

Good luck! I never gave in to it except a couple times I'd eat later in the evening than I should have because my head told me I was hungry. But never ate junk. We can do this I'm sure I haven't seen the last of my mind telling me to eat badly or when I'm not suppose to but I'm sure glad that it's over for now.

Let me tell u, my work has been a rough spot to be the last 7 weeks. They literally order take out every single night and order nothing but delicious CRAP! The whole office would then smelll of this food once it arrived and I would go warm my chicken and broccoli, or whatever bland dish I had brought with me. I just keep telling myself "this is not suppose to be easy, but it's sooooo gonna be worth it" As my coworkers waistlines are expanding, mine is shrinking. that's enough motivation for me.

Looking forward to going back to work and seeing if the head hunger stays away when the office fills with the smell of Red Robin or Olive Garden or wing stop. Lol. I work 7 days on and 7 days off and go back this Thursday. Stay tuned.......

First time I cooked my kids dinner since sugery and oh man the smell of the pizza crust was appealing. Nothing wrong witg enjoying smells. I'm having yummy onion and beef Soup pureed then added Water to make it thin)

I've reminded myself that one day when I'm in the maintenance phase and not weightloss phase I can add some carbs to my diet. Just not today and that's OK.

pizza has always been my weakness. I love the smell, the taste, the look omg. Love love love. I could have eaten it day and night. However, I've found my tastebuds have changed so much. When I was allowed cheeses, I tried the toppings off the pizza I ordered for the football boys that seem to live at my house and it was disgusting to me. I ordered it from my favorite place and ordered cheese pizza which is also my favorite. I am glad to say I have no desire to eat it ever again. Like I said, it didn't taste good to me but most important, my body said NO to it and I was hurting for 10 mins or so afterwards. I only had 2 bites before I decided I didn't like it anymore.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
