Did they weigh you on surgery day?

Recommended Posts

I've been weighed before every surgery I ever had - so they can get the anaesthetic right. I'd be worried if I'd gained 10 or 20lb pre surgery, but 3lb is nothing, its a daily fluctuation. Chill!

Yup, I was weighed butt naked in my cute hospital gown just prior having the IV inserted. I went for my 2 week post-op and that is what they consider my "beginning weight". Down 17# in two weeks - have not had a lick of trouble. First fill is the 27th. :whoo:

I'm not sure if they did or not. At first I thought that they haden't because I was not taken to a scale but the next day the nurse came into my room and was playing with the controls on my bed and told me my weight. Now pre- op a nurse was playing with the controls on my bed, so i imagine she got my weight and just never told me. Sorry that was long and drawn out.

yes, I was weighed before surgery- I also asked them to weigh me after to see if I had gained any weight due to the anasthesia and meds but no, I weighed exactly the same.

Yes I have been weighed before every surgery in order to get anaesthetic dose right. I was on a pre op diet, as the doc wanted the liver to shrink a little. I suspect it was also some sort of a test to see if I could stick to the post op diet of liquid for 14 days. Yes go ahead and do the math, I was on liquid diet for 14 days, then a one day fast pre op, then 14 days of liquids post op. 29 days without actual food !!

I was weighed pre-op and BMI was calculated again. I think the concern was more on being w/in the BMI limits (not too low). Let us know how it goes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
