Help! I'm so scared I've spent all this money for nothing

Recommended Posts

I had surgery same day as you and this past week has been the first i haven't lost anything. I weigh weekly...i know I probably shouldn't even do it that much but my grandmother asks me every week for an update and I'm to dang curious myself so I weigh and I check lol. I lost 15 lb pre op and 21 sense surgery. I know others who weigh less than me and some who weigh more than me who are further along than I am. I admit that thought is frustrating when I am doing everything i can to meet the docs orders and still not seeing someone elses results on my scale. But, I have faith in the process. Hang in there @@gustavio stalls are temporary...frustrating yes, but temporary. I have spent the past 30 years of my life putting this weight on. I can't expect it all to come off in just a few months. Our bodies are still healing, and we are both women so hormones and bloating and all that crappy stuff are part of the equation. It WILL come off.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I really do love this app. I appreciate everyone's advice and reassurance so much!! Today is a better day, anxiety wise. My scale still hasn't moved but I am now in a large shirt (down from a 2X) and I can SEE MY COLLARBONES! ugh, my long lost collarbones. I haven't seen those fellas in years. I took a selfie today and Usually have to take 20 before I get one I like. Today, I was happy with the first shot. My confidence is slowly coming back. I've posted a pre surgery selfie and today's (sorry bout the lighting. My husband was asleep so I didn't want to turn on the light) attachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1475825458.667941.jpg

You look fabulous! I am currently 228, wearing XXL/1X/16W sizes. Your "before" selfie could totally be me: very pretty, but obviously overweight.

I have my consult next week, and hope to have surgery in 2 months, after the required nutritionist visits. If I could be down to a large, and have my face look as skinny as yours a couple months after surgery, I wouldn't care what the scale says! Muscle weighs more than fat, after all.

From what I've read on here, it is really important to meet your fluid goals, so just work on that and enjoy your brand new look!!! :)

On the day of surgery I weighed 226, Six weeks out I was down about 24 pounds. I did have to play with my diet in order to figure out what worked best for me. My plan that was given to me by my team added back in "all" foods. However, for weight loss, what I found worked best for me was to stay very very low carb. So I stick to a low carb diet and this increased my weight loss quite a bit. I am now less that 5 months post op and have lost almost 83 pounds.

At 6 weeks though your body is still adjusting. Just try to sit back and relax. Make sure you're not eating any empty calories and the weight will come off. Once you've completely healed you may need to play around with your diet and see what works best for you. Good luck!!!

BTW, I weigh everyday too....it helps to keep me on track. So just know there are plenty of us daily weighers out there! But you do need to try not to stress over it. :)

Thank you and congrats! Great job!

I have been staying low carb also. I am allowed "all foods" now also and I LOVE LOVE LOVE salads. Always have. But there isn't enough Protein in a salad. But I'll admit, I find myself ordering them often since I don't really like meat. I've never been a meat eater. I always try n pick out my chicken and eat it first.

One restaurant salad will be 3-4 meals for me. But again, not the Protein I'm needing. Wish I was more keen of meats.

There are vegans and vegetarians who are post WLS. Do a search and figure out what they eat.

@@gustavio firstly let me just say that you are looking amazing! I can see the weight loss in your face. Secondly the national average in the US is 15-25 lbs in the first month and then about 10 lbs per month after if you follow the guidelines of Protein intake and diet guidelines. So you are doing amazing! Give yourself some credit and treat yourself to a facial or pedicure to Celebrate what you have accomplished!

I would love to live on veggies alone! I'll have to check that out. I hate being required to eat meat. Blah

Thanks! I appreciate that! It's funny, I went and did hands, feet and face today even before I seen this. Starting to feel much better about myself.

I made a decision early out not to share numbers with people (even my mother) so they wouldn't keep asking for updates like your Grandmother. When asked how much I have lost, I just say "a lot". If they press, I can truthfully say I don't share that number. I don't even share it with my mother.

I have hubby weigh me and keep track. He doesn't tell me the number. I will ask my progress every few days, but if I looked at the scale daily I would go crazy.

@@gustavio You can't compare yourself to others. We are all different. Men lose faster than woman usually. Often those losing a significant amount of weight that early on have a lot more to lose than you do. This isn't a race - you have done well and should be ecstatic! Without surgery, it would have taken me a year to lose 20 lbs and about 3 minutes to gain it all back. Stop weighing so often - you're going to sabotage yourself!

And increase your fluids!!!

A year to lose 30 pounds and 3 minutes to gain it back! So true...I'm gonna keep this one in my back pocket if/when I feel the need to explain my reason for surgery...so true!

You might be on a stall. I had my surgery 8/8/16. I've already had 2 stalls. One for 3 weeks right after surgery, just getting off a 2 week stall. Everyone weight loss is different. Don't compare yourself to anyone. Make sure your Protein is at least 60a days, and Water at least 64. I find the 2 Snacks a day are imporant to get your Protein in. I use light baby bell, or light &fit greek yogurt. Protein will fill you more and keep you going. Don't get discourage just stay your coarse, and the weight will come off. Don't forget to weight everything and log your food somewhere to always know where you are for tge day. Hope this help you to know your not alone and be patient.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
