What Do You Find Most Freeing About WLS?

Recommended Posts

Traveling is so much easier. Don't ooze into airplane seats, hotel beds don't hurt when you weigh what a normal adult weighs. But most importantly is my GF. We really would not have met if I was my old size and she has freed me from many things in the year that we have dated. Most emotionally stable person I have ever known.

That food does not have much priority in my life. The first few years I had to work harder on food....

I still have to be prepared and conscious..... But I can be hungry for awhile at appropriate times... What a freeing feeling

Just living life, for years, at a "normal" size is so wonderful.

I am thankful.

After years of failure, I never have to worry about dieting again...I simply live a new lifestyle where food, hunger and cravings are no longer an issue.

first thing that comes to mind is that I do not have to choose 1 activity on my days off -

in otherwords, if I go hiking I will not be able to get my chores done - or if I work in the garden I can not go hiking due to fatigue, body pain, etc.

now it is no problem to do multiple things a day - or to do household chores when I return home freeing up more weekend time for leisure activities.

secondly the fact that I do not have to worry if I eat this or eat that (Fruit is the main choice in this category) will my blood sugar go high - what will my A1c be - is my Metformin controlling it? is it worth taking the Metformin (side effects) - no worries because I am no longer considered a diabetic, no longer on any prescription medications. this is also a huge, freeing truth.

I know about those Metformin side effects...even the extended release ones. I am looking forward to that day when I don't have to worry about the side-effects. Also, the lack of general fatigue sounds wonderful, as well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
