I've been hearing this from other posters, too. I did not have a drain (or at least if I did, they pulled it out before I woke up). I would ask your surgeon about this.

No drain here either but I have heard of people having them. It is only to help and trapped Fluid or blood in your abdominal cavity out, this helps lower the risk of some complications for people who need to have a drain in. They are usually removed within a few days if required, from what I have been told

My surgeon only uses drains for people who are having revisions. I won't be getting a drain! YESSSS!

My surgeon doesn't use drains, at least for straight gastric sleeve surgery. I am not sure what she does for people who are having other things done at the same time, like hernia repairs. You should call and ask (that's what I did!).

I had a drain but only for 24 hours. It was gone well before I left the hospital. Also, it was not a big deal!

I had a drain as well. They removed it within 24 hours. The removal unfortunately was painful for me

Just had my surgery on 9/20/16 and I had a drain cause I had a hernia repaired, it was removed in 24 hours right before I was discharged, but I am 6 days out and my stomach is a little swollen. Is this ok? Is someone going through this also?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
