Enough "fuel" after RNY

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

I had RNY about 9 months ago and am 25lbs from goal. I have dabbled in running over the last 6 months and am getting more serious about it. I find I can run about 5-6km but then my tank seems to be empty...I mean like tanked!! In the past I have carried a Protein bar with me due to having issues with my pouch of drinking while running (it just makes for a sad tummy!) and have a few nibbles here and there. I'm doing a 9km mud obstacle course race this weekend where I can't carry food with me.....how do I keep the body fueled??

Can you bring running fuel like Gu or Sport Beans or Chomps? Honestly I run distance endurance events and I don't fuel for anything under an hour length... Which for me means anything up to 10k.

I can't carry anything on this event and it's close to two hours to complete.

Is that a rule? When I did Spartan we could. I wore a hydration pack with pockets. Will there be water/fuel stops on the course? How will you get Water? Because anyone would have issues fueling in a situation like that, WLS or not. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

No, it's not a rule, I just don't want to get everything all muddy. I'm sure there will be Water stations and possibly food on the course. I've never done it before but it's Tough Mudders little sister. Tough Mudder had food and drink so I'm hoping that I've carved up enough over the last few days [emoji5]

Carry gu or Chomps or sport Beans. They are in single serve sealed packets. Open eat discard. Tiny portions. You can't prefuel enough for that kind of endurance event, your glycogen stores will get depleted.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
