I'm 14 days out and only having Protein shakes, broth and no calorie drinks (I won't be cleared for soft foods puddig, cottage cheese, refried Beans until another week). Please review the plan your surgeon sent you. Make sure you're getting all your Water, that could be a cause of your hunger. Also stomach acid could mimic hunger. I am on Prilosac to combat that. Did you get anything for the stomach acid as well?

@@shani1970 - I did the same thing but mine was the toppings off of a piece of pizza. It was awful! I thought I was going to die. If you look back about 5 weeks ago I posted about it! I got a lot of support from the family on here, don't beat yourself up, push forward, and remember that pain when you think of making that mistake again!

You got this!

My liquids plan included canned, protein-based Soups (chicken noodle or beef vegetable) blended to a smooth consistency and mashed potatoes or refried Beans blended with milk or broth. The rule for me was if you put a straw in it and it stands up, it's too thick. There should be some options on your plan that will give you some satisfaction from that hungry feeling. And as someone else mentioned, it could be acid mimicking hunger. Above all, take care of yourself!

I'm not allowed even pudding until day 11 - if you're hungry, watch the surgery on YouTube. Works for me! I'm in a very depressed time (6 days out, uncomfortable, hungry). I totally understand you.

Good luck ❤

Literally my doc told me a story of a lady that ate a pork chop 1 week post op and it almost KILLED HER! not killed her pain wise. It literally almost killed her. It scares me enough to follow my plan! Glad everything worked out for you. Not following their recommendations could be catastrophic

Six weeks post sleeve I chewed a very small soft piece of crockpot chicken breast. It stuck in my chest. I ran through my house unable to tell my husband to call rescue because I could not breathe. You can bet that never happened AGAIN! I took every precaution and had been approved for that chicken in my food plan. I stuck to Soups, broths, shakes, cottage cheese, etc, until my NUT at three months declared I should eat salads. The fear was REAL.

That's scary!!

I wonder what happens to people who eat pizza or a burger the day after. Their stomach is gone - so how do they get back straight? I know it's horribly dangerous. Wonder what their final outcomes are.

People actually attempt pizza and burgers!!!!??? I would kill for just the toppings off a slice of pizza but I know better

My surgeon has had 1 failure, they drove to the McD around the corner and ate a big mac. I can't imagine, I hurt so badly then. At a week out, that greasy "meat" still sounds nauseating, but I understand how people need food. I have wanted a cheese stick, but am too scared!

I did good to swallow water! Let alone real food! I could not imagine the people that Sabotage themselves like that so early, will have a very successful outcome

@shani1970- Really? Just for the sake of edifying others who might be thinking about this procedure...how much pre-op work did you do? I'm not judging, I'm just wondering, did you:

Look at YouTube videos of success and failures?

Did you look at this site?

Do you have a counselor and work through your food issues?

Did you feel forced into having this surgery, or was it your choice?

I was so committed that I was dead on perfect from two week pre-op for three months following but mainly because I had seen and learned enough going in that anything less would be a waste and potentially dangerous. But I'm not typical, so what have you learned? Esp. about your expectations going in...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
