Pre-Op Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I'm dying!! Today is Day 1 of my pre-op diet, as I'm required to lose 10% of my excess body weight in the next three months. I had Breakfast and was fine. Had lunch and was ok but my partner called me to tell me she got laid off today and the day went down hill from there. I didn't necessarily "cheat" (I hate that term), but I feel like I'm so hungry. I went over by about 160 calories and I just feel like all I want to do is eat. Walking home from my aunts house today I was really doubting myself. Like do I really want to do this? Not be able to have pizza and cake with my family when there is a family event? Ugh. I don't want to hear "the voices" that are trying taking me down, and I don't want to go to food every time I have a crisis. But it's so hard to block them out. I'm just feeling defeated tonight and having myself a pity party. Don't mind me.

Here was my 10 day fat man pre op diet. Two premier shakes, all of the sugar free Jello I wanted, a green salad per day with lemon juice or vinegar for dressing, I could have grilled unseasoned chicken or white fish, at least a spoonful of Greek yogurt to promote good stomach bacteria. I mixed the yogurt with the lemon and it made a killer dressing for my chicken and green salad. I had it at work for a sense of normalcy and it worked well. I had headaches for the first 3 days but after that all was good. I went from 312 to 293 in 10 days.

I only had to do a 2 week liquid pre-op to shrink my liver in prep for RnY. I drank Protein shakes, broth, tea, Water, SF Jello and SF Popsicles. The first 3 days weren't too bad. On Day 4 I was ready to gnaw my arm off and beat everyone around me with it! When I made it to Week 2, it was much better. Was told by my NP that most lose 9-15 lbs during this time, and I lost 9 lbs. Now down 30 lbs more since surgery date 6/20. Oh! Be sure to add Fiber to your Protein Shakes. ( I like Benefiber clear--no color, no taste. Or Fiber gummies.) Otherwise, all that Protein will really make you constipated! I ended up drinking all of my magnesium citrate meant for the day before surgery, in the middle of Week 2. It was THAT bad. Had trouble again the first 2 months after surgery and had to use stool softeners in addition to fiber. Never had this problem in my life! However, since I graduated to Stage 4 of the eating plan, eating fresh or steamed veggies every day does the trick. Yay!

Hahaha this made me laugh - and cry! Because I am currently moving into week 2 of my pre-op liquid diet and everything has been "moving" along normally, then last night - LORD HAVE MERCY - Constipation hit me like a brick (yep!).

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and they gave me some sample laxatives so I dug them out and downed one! Afterwards I read the back and it states: "produces a bowel movement within 12-72 hours" !! What sort of timeframe is that!?

If I could turn back time I would be adding the fiber to my shakes at the beginning of last week!!

I've just never had this problem!! TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED DURING THIS PROCESS!!

Moving forward its added fiber all the way until I can actually eat real food again. I encourage everyone to strongly consider doing the same, because it's not fun - really not fun!

I am on day 4 and doing better lol. I figured out my problem with the self doubt and crabbiness, it was the PMS. Hahaha. I've been ok today and was just thinking I'm not even gonna be hungry for lunch. I feel like the premier Protein shakes fill me up more than I thought they would. I had one today as well as some cottage cheese and I feel really full. Like as if I just ate full. We'll see how the day plays out. I have plenty of high Protein Snacks at work in case I do get hungry.

I have now been inspired to go get fiber to mix with my shakes. I am on day 4 and I can already tell things have slowed down.

Hi I'm Rosey Posey I'm on the road to bariatricville myself. Just an teenie idea- when they have those things put a drop of flavor in the shakes. Maybe vanilla extract? Or drop a small berry into it and some ice chips whip it up in blender so its thick like a real milkshake.? Try biking or swimming also for exerciseso go drink , ask

your mom is you can wash walls for her? Also go clean the bathroom that SURE kills any appetite I have. My primary care says if you think you're hungry you're teetering on dehydration

Haha, I have to remember that: clean the bathroom. I am drinking tons and tons of Water. I believe yesterday I had 160 ounces. Yes, 20 cups of Water. Monday I had 14 cups of water. It was just the PMS. I'm fine now lol.

So glad you all brought this subject up!!???? I'm 2weeks post op with sleeve getting ready to go to pureed stage foods on Saturday. Normally I'm constipated, but the last two weeks have been a challenge! I'm also drinking Premier protein..magnesium citrate helps somewhat, hopefully pureed veggies will help! It's been the only complaint.. Other than that I feel great!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
