1 day post op and feeling weird...

Recommended Posts

As I'm barely writing this, it's now been exactly 24 hrs since my sleeve and gallbladder removal andI'm still in the hospital. I don't feel too much pain, but when I swallow my sips of liquids, almost immediately after, I feel sharp pain in my chest and even sometimes hiccups. I also get mock bubble guts (like when you really need to poop), i know everyone on staff here at my hospital says it's normal, but i want to know if anyone has experienced this? How did you cope and how long did these feelings last?

Uh, you just had 3/4 of your stomach taken out and stapled back up. Things are going to feel "weird".

Take TINY sips. You've just got to heal up before things start to feel normal again.

Hang in there. It does get better. I promise!

Sounds perfectly normal but I understand that it can be concerning when you are actually experiencing it. As Babbs rightly said - you just had major surgery - major TRAUMA done to your body. You are going to feel "weird" for a while. For the first week post op, I struggled to get liquids in partly due to the sharp pain you describe. Just remember to take small sips and experiment with temperatures - slightly warm broth was easier for me than ice cold Water, for some people it is just the opposite. Even after that first week, I would still have some sharp pain or hiccuping if I took my sips too close together or took too big of a sip. So look at those signals as signs to slow down, but keep sipping. It is critical to get as many fluids into your body as possible during this stage. You will also have some rumblings and other feelings as the gas they pumped you with moves through your body - you'll feel much better when all that gas is gone, trust me!

Hang in there, the first week or so can be rough but in the long run will be a distant memory. It's all worth it in the end!

Try warmer... Tea, chicken broth. My tummy (bypass) preferred it. Also remember it takes longer for sleeves to heal than bypass- greater surface area in sleeves.

I'm 3dpo and have similar symptoms. No hiccups. It's hard to move, I keep worrying I'm going to blow out the stitches getting in/ out of my bed or a chair.

I was terrified when I coughed or sneezed I was going to blow them out.

Get up and move! Honestly, that's the only thing that made me feel better was walking around. It's hell getting up, but once you're up and about it feels good.

Wait til your next dose of meds. Wait about 30 min. Then hit the floor walking those halls. Get tired. Go to bathroom and lay down. Rinse repeat. Walking has saved me. I'm like a puppy with my leash at the door.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
