Could I be denied if my BMI goes down?

Recommended Posts

I also have BCBS FEP. I have lost 6 lbs in 2 months, I have 1 month left until me last weigh in. I have to maintain until then really. Let me know how it goes for you with your insurance..@patricka76.

This is also my fear. I am starting at barely over 35 BMI. I'm on the 6 month weigh in. My Dr tells me it's OK if I go under a little, but I refuse to until the very last month. Then I plan on losing 7 or 8 lbs. They always laugh at me because literally my weight stays EXACTLY the same.

I started with 36.9 bmi, i am now at 35.89 as of yesterday. I have my last weigh in 2/2. My goal is to maintain this because I don't want to even let them try to deny me.

@@patricka76 so how long did it take for them to get your approval? Do you have a surgery date?

I was told that I had to have a BMI of 40 when they submitted to insurance but then I could go under. Which is good because I'll be very close to 40 within the next few pounds!!

I think it's really dependent on your insurance.

I know how you feel!! I have at 35.5 bmi and am depending on sleep apnea to get approved by insurance. I just completed the test last night. I am a wreck I can't stop thinking about it. I'm only on my first month, if I don't have sleep apnea I'll be stuck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
