You can do it! My baby sister had her sleeve 2 years ago August. She was around 480 and has lost 225#. I had my sleeve in June of this year. My heaviest was 266 in Oct of last year. I'm at 204 now. Very well worth it! I've never been able to lose weight and keep it off before. Good luck on your journey. I'm sure you will have great success!

For those of you that have already been sleeved.. any tip on being successful post op....I made up my mind that eating "normally" will never be the same....i intend on sticking to a low carb diet and/ alternate day fasting for the rest of my life....is anyone doing anything similar?

You probably shouldn't do the fasting until you are close to goal. We can only eat small amounts and it's too important to get enough Protein every day. My tip (even though I'm pre-op) is to stick with your post-op plan!

Yeah. I also agree with the whole not fasting thing. Everyone says Protein intake and Water are the number one things to focus on every single day. So to me I'm just simplifying my diet to focus on those two things and ofc cutting out sugar/carbs but that happens when you can't eat much and Protein goes in first. GL love! Not going to lie, this preop diet is one of the hardest thing I've ever done. And I still have 7 days. I wish I could just induce sleep for 7 days straight and be ok because this hunger is so amazingly difficult to deal with.

Thanks for the advise, advice about the fasting... But I guess I should explain it more 1 day you kinda eat what you want then the second day it would be a liquid diet / with Protein shake and one 500 calorie meal around noon.... I ran across the idea while doing research on the study of eating habits in America and I figured it would be a good tool in obtaining my weight loss goal and maintenance

Is this what your NUT suggests?

I agree that fasting doesn't sound like a very good strategy.

I just posted this to another thread:

If you are not clear on your post-op program, make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals and strategies for reaching those goals and your post-op food plan.

I don't consider this a diet.

What works for me:

Follow my program.

Track my food.< /p>

Consume at least 64 oz of Fluid a day.

Make sure I reach my Protein target every day (for me that is at least 100 grams).

Avoid starches (bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, etc), added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods.

Take my Vitamins and supplements as directed.

Exercise.

Get enough restful sleep.

That a good question....my nutritionist actually hasn't advise me of anything past those 1 st six weeks post op....my insurance had me do 6 months of supervised dieting and consulting, where we for over r the liquid diet and eating with your pouch the first 6 weeks after surgery. but I did tell my nutritionist that post op I my schedule another appointment with her, may need ti schedule that at the six week post op mark

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
