I wasn't quite over 400lbs, I started out at 392, so hope you don't mind me posting I was sleeved 1st October 2015 and so far I've lost 239lbs. This has been an amazing journey for me and I still get surprised by new things every day I hope you enjoy the same success as I have it's one of the best feelings ever

Omg. 239 in less than a year!!! That's beyond remarkable! And you did sleeve!? Tips please!!!! I'm actually 385 or less now cause of pre op diet (I haven't weighed in 5 days because I've been traveling). So I'd be beyond floored with similar success!!!

@@jodi2727 I think I've been very lucky, I still don't have any hunger and only really eat as a function to live but still don't eat a huge amount. I'm not a saint and do indulge in a very occasional treat as I want this to be a way I can live long term not something where I feel I have to deprive myself as I don't think that is sustainable or sensible. In the main I eat meat, vegetables, eggs, yoghurt, cheese and some fruit I avoid anything which is carb heavy as I don't like the bloated feeling that comes along with it although I confess to having a couple of glasses of wine in the last couple of weeks but I am very conscious of drinking generally.

Yes it was the sleeve I chose, I try not to weigh more than once a week because I know myself and I would rather not get obsessed by a number on the scale (some weeks it might end up being twice if I really get distracted though).

Well done on your weight loss so far, I hope it helps you feel positive that you are in control of this and that you are preparing yourself emotionally to make the most of the opportunity you have with the sleeve, it was certainly the best hope for me to achieve the weight loss I needed to survive long term.

I do have a new found love of exercise which helps and I'd recommend getting into exercise as soon as you can, it does make a world of difference to energy levels and general outlook on life (I waited too long and let myself down in that respect - it takes a lot of guts to walk into a gym at not far shy of 400lbs, but I realised everyone has their own demons and reasons for being there and that I really wasn't their primary focus and it was all in my head).

Apologies for the long rambling post, I'm sure there are a million other things I could tell you, but most importantly please remember you have made an important choice for yourself, don't judge your progress against others, you risk damaging your own well being.

You will be successful, there will be challenges but focus on why you chose this route and they will fall into perspective.

I wish you every success on your journey, if I can be of any help or you want to chat drop me a line

Thanks for the advise, advice about the fasting... But I guess I should explain it more 1 day you kinda eat what you want then the second day it would be a liquid diet / with Protein shake and one 500 calorie meal around noon.... I ran across the idea while doing research on the study of eating habits in America and I figured it would be a good tool in obtaining my weight loss goal and maintenance

It will be a LONG while, if ever, before you will be able to consume 500 cals in one sitting unless it's fried foods, very fatty foods, junk food, slider food or any other calorie dense food.

What type of exercising do you all do who have lost?

I started off with a small amount of walking, gradually upgraded to brisk walking. Now, my exercise is mostly kettlebell workouts, hiking, and brisk walking. In a couple of weeks, I will start krav maga. I don't think that there is any one exercise that works for everyone. The key is to find something that you like and that will keep you moving over the long-run.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
