Hey all - I have Cigna open access and my last appointment with the dietitian is November 4th. Just curious to know how long it usually takes for most insurance companies to approve and once they approve, how long will it be until I have my surgery? I'm wanting to relocate to another city and I was just curious. Thanks to all!

I have Cigna Open Access. Once submitted I had an approval in about 5 days.

Once I satisfied everything that the doctors and the nurses need it only took me two weeks for the insurance to give me approval. After I received my Insurance approval, it was about me and the doctor coming up with a schedule that suited both of us.

Yes. I was sleeved about 10 days after receiving approval.

Cigna takes 5 to 7 days. Remember you're also dealing with the surgeons office and their scheduling/submitting everything in a timely manner. One thing you might want to check into - does your plan require a referral letter from your PCP? My Cigna plan did and that added a few days to the time. Try to get that in to the surgeons office ASAP, if you need it.

I have already submitted my PCP letter to the surgeons office. The only thing I'm waiting for is the 3 months with the dietician. My last appointment is November 4th. I really need my surgery by the end of November. Fingers crossed

I have Cigna as well and it didn't even take a week. I went for my weight and date (hadn't been approved yet) and scheduled it for 2 weeks out. I was approved very fast.

I decided to do six months of the supervised diet. They submitted for approval but one page didn't scan right. A week later we figured that out and resubmitted and they approved it one day.

My surgeon's office set my surgery date, then didn't submit me for approval til I did the last tests for them. Guess they weren't worried about me getting approved.

I got a letter in the mail and told the PA. She had to go confirm it with the insurance coordinator. I guess it depends on the surgeon but you should definitely get a letter from Cigna.

Is the surgeons office that calls you or do you call your insurance or wait on a letter from them. Mine was sent in on Tuesday, this week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
