Concern about surgery

Recommended Posts

Is anyone having surgery in October. I've got my date it's October 3rd. Feeling a little anxious and worried about the pain. Do you come home if you are still in pain?

There will be pain management. If you have severe pain you don't get sent home. You won't be sent home unless you can get some fluids down and pass urine either (in my experience). Don't stress about it now. Take it one step at a time and you'll do fine!

I had my surgery on May 16th.....try not to worry about the pain. Although everyone is different, once I came home I never needed to take any pain meds......Just go into it with a positive attitude. The day of surgery was a little tough, but that was mainly caused by the anesthesia and getting good and awake....Once I was awake it got much better

Try to plan to walk as soon as possible and as much as you can after you leave recovery. I've been through it twice and that made a huge difference. I also try to take as little of the pain meds as possible. They constipate and generally make things tougher. Obviously take them until you don't need them anymore, but as soon as you can get off them do so. Just my $0.02. Good luck!!!

After one night in the hospital I was able to go home. I had a little pain and discomfort- but not as bad as I thought it might be. It's all worth it!

@4ukay! ???????????? for you. I'm Glad you asked this question , thank you, I haven't scheduled my surgery date yet but my next visit with the dr on sept 15 I will schedule surgery and want to set it for October too.

I feel your anxiety ! It's been on my mind 24/7 but I rely on all the supporters comments to help me get through it.

So just keep expressing how you feel and everyone who has had the surgery will keep you encouraged , make you feel at ease and help see you through it because that is what I am depending on. Thanks everyone for your encouraging words. 4ukay , please keep us posted I know you will do fine.

I had my surgery July 13th, make sure you get up and walk ASAP after the surgery while your in the hospital, that helps relieve pain. If you have gas pain try the chewable gas ex pills and try laying on your left side with a pillow between your legs and your right leg slightly hanging over your left, that helps tremendously. Good Luck!

@ 4ukay- I too am working toward an Oct. surgery date. I hoped for Sept. But as long as it is soon & I am ok after. I am concerned about the pain after also. I have been out of work & disabled since 2012 & I am hoping to be in less pain with less weight. I have a pain pump that covers some of the back pain. I fear being in added pain from surgery & being blown off about it due to pain pump, which does nothing to help the rest of my pain. I do know laser surgery is much easier on pain afterwards. Hang in there to the Oct. surgery plans, we will be in good shape. Have faith, I do!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
