Hi All,

My name is Dawn and I will be banded October 8th in Mpls, MN by Dr. Lederer at HCMC. I am very scared and excited at the same time. I have had a really positive experience with my dieticians, nurses and the surgeon. I have read all I could to prepare for this life changing experience, I'm more worried about the two week liquid diet I have to go on prior to the surgery. But I know I can do it!!! I will continue to read all the posts here for more information and to learn about your experiences, so keep um coming.

I'm new here too. You have done well to find this site before your surgery. You will do very well with the support everyone can offer here. As well meaning as friends and family can be- it is different when you can talk to someone that has gone through it. The liquid diet isn't so bad and it really does prepare your body for the surgery as the reduced calories help to burn some of the fat pad around your liver and this will make your surgery a little easier for the surgeon. You will never appreciate yogurt and mashed potatoes so much when you finally get to that stage! I am a nuse and have experienced this surgery from both sides and I can tell you that a positive attitude is 99% of it. Just keep moving as soon as you can after the surgery!

Good Luck and God Bless!

Hey Dawn, nice to meet you. I got so excited reading your post. I'm still in the pre op phase and can almost picture myself when I FINALLY get my date. I am alittle nervous about the liquid diet myself, but when I think of all the crazy "diets" I've done over the years.....whats 2 weeks of liquids? ?? (remind me of that when I'm crying for something to eat in a couple months) Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Ang

Thank you so much for the post and the words of encouragement. I wish I could have the surgery tomorrow. I just want to get it over with. But I will continue to be positive and work at changing some of my bad habits before the surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
