When I want to eat something that I cannot eat I chew it until it's mush and than spit it out. It helps with the hunger pains from not being able to eat. Does anyone else do this?

I've heard of people doing it and I think it's a very, very bad idea. How far out are you? Why can't you eat?

It's a form of an eating disorder. It's a very dangerous habit to get into. It also starts your stomach juices for digestion and can cause issues.

I have been working very close with my surgeon and nutritionist. I have tried every form of Protein and anything other than Water and I throw up. I have heard before it's a eating disorder but didn't think I want that bad. Just drinking Water is so nasty sometimes. I can't even get Vitamins in. They were going to put me on a Vitamin patch but I'm allergic to adhesive. The next step is IV Vitamin infusion.

when I was in my nutrition class I asked if I could chew and spit just for the tastes I was missing. She said definitely not!!! You still get the calories and fat and sugar when you swallow the saliva from chewing the food. Not a good idea.

Ugh. I am SO sorry you are having this trouble. I had a stricture and had it dilated twice and felt instantly better. I hate that hasn't worked for you! I hope they are watching you very closely. I worry that you cannot intake any Protein or Vitamins. Keep us posted!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
