At what point did you buy new clothes

Recommended Posts

I am 50 lbs down from my HW of 290 and needless to say, my clothes are getting pretty baggy. I think if I hold out for another 15 to 20 lbs I can do a regular size 18 and have more choices. But not sure I can hold out that long. When did you break down and buy new clothes and were you glad you did or do you wish you had waited a little longer?

Simple advice is to buy a few pieces at each stage. A 50 pou d loss means that NOTHING fits, so a couple of things that do fit will do wonders for your self image, your spirit, and you will be thrilled to see a number that was unimaginable before your surgery decision. 2-3 looks should suffice, and be ready to repeat the process several times over. Congratulations, and enjoy the changes to come!!!

Like the others mentioned, just a few pieces at a time. When I got down to a size 16 ( I had started at a size 20 & some 22's), I got so excited because spring was coming so I bought more clothes then I should have. I was a 16 for LESS then two months. The tags were taken off the clothes, so I was unable to return them . A very costly lesson.

Thrift stores and clearance racks are the best places to shop right now. Get a few basic color pants or skirts and keep repeating. tops usually can be worn a bit longer (more forgiving).

Definitely get a couple pieces because I believe seeing yourself in smaller clothes is very motivating.

I'm at the point now where I need to shop for new clothes as well. None of my dress clothes for work (I'm a teacher) fit anymore. Like the other posters, I've been visiting thrift stores and the clearance racks at places like Kohl's. Trying on new clothes in smaller sizes has been fun! I bought a large shirt yesterday--a large!!!

I'm also trying to recoup some money by selling my "too big" clothes at a local consignment sale that's held each fall and spring. It's well-known in my area and I've made some cash there before selling unwanted items.

I went to the thrift store and got some pants when the crotch started sagging and rubbing on my thighs. $8 for two pairs of capris and a pair of jeans. Woo-hoo! I can deal with too-large shirts for a while longer. I was 55lbs down at that point. I went from a snug 26 to a comfy 22. I thought about trying to make these pants last long enough to go down another size, but decided it wasn't worth it.

I would recommend getting a couple pair of pants, because proper fit means comfort.

Ok, BigDogBryan, you are right. Nothing that fit before fits now. The things I am wearing are really things that were too small before, but are too big now. What a terrible problem to have :) Loving it right now. Thanks for all the advice guys, just told my hubby that the experts have spoken and this weekend will be a thrift store weekend for me!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
