Day 2 post op 8lbs gained from IV

Recommended Posts

It varies on the person. It can take a while. I didn't weigh myself for a week after surgery and I had lost, so I'm unsure of how it really affected me. Otherwise in the support group I'm in haven't seen any loss in the first 2-3 weeks. Your body is still healing, so dropping that weight from the IV is likely the last thing it's working on doing. But it will drop, just give it some time!

How soon can I expect to see the weight from the iv fluids come off? I haven't had anything other than Water since the day before surgery and the iv put 8lbs on me.

I'm 8 days out and I'm taking my Dr's advice NOT to get on a scale and wait for my 2 week follow-up. I'm letting my body heal and each day make better progress at getting the required fluids and walking in.

There are numbers on a scale, but don't forget the inches!

Inches whisper progress. I lost about 12 lbs before surgery date. Today I chose a pair of jeans from my 2012 skinnier chunky days which I couldn't get past my hips and thighs before last week. And damnit, albeit a little snug, I got those suckers up and zipped. Almost 3 sizes smaller...

Hang in there! Remember one day at at time =)

I was weighed in the hospital not at home. I was just wondering. Im not focused on that. It was just a question. I always ask about everything. That's just me. I'm most concerned about my nausea. Which of course I asked about in another thread. Lol

I too gained. What a shocker it was. I had to go to my Drs appt 3 days after surgery. Albeit slow, I was down 8 lbs. I know it's not much but it was just the beginning. It will happen! Good luck Kia

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
