Can you get TOO MUCH protein?

Recommended Posts

I am on day 1 of my pre-op diet, and I was wondering if there's a danger of getting too much Protein?

My Protein shakes have 30g, and if I drink 4 then I am already at 120. That does not include any I might get from Bone Broth, or sugar free pudding made with milk, etc.

Is there a high end protein limit I should avoid?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I'm positive that there is.....I just don't know the limit. I'm sure that some of the bodybuilder types probably push those Protein limits. Doubtful that I ever have.

I see folks refer to our new diet as a high Protein diet. I think of it as more of a low carb diet.

The way I see it......I can take a normal meal from my prior life....eliminate the sides and Desserts......and leave the meaty entree. In doing so, I haven't really added any protein amount to the meal....just cut out all the other stuff.

To more accurately reply to your question, I was told to have 3-4 of those same 30gr protein shakes as my pre-op diet the 14 days leading up to my surgery and 2-3 of them per day in the weeks after. My surgeon is the one who told me this.

I hope this helps.

Yes absolutely. If you have any type of kidney disease it is important to stay on the minimum side of 1 gram for every 1 inch you are tall. It makes your kidneys work harder.

I have stage 3 kidney disease so I have to be very careful. My kidney disease is in remission but the last few month my BUN levels have been off so I have to watch both Proteins and medications that are filtered through the kidneys.

Thanks for the info, everyone! No kidney disease, so I won't worry if I go a little over.

I'm currently on a low carb diet like stated above so my intake is pretty high when it comes to Protein. Between 120-180 a day. So far the only down side has been extremely constipated. This is what one of my last couple days looked like numbers wise.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
