Are you taking a PPI with the antibiotics? That helps calm the side effects of the antibiotics. Also- according to my gastroenterologist - testing at 1 month after antibiotics can give you a false positive- take the PPI for 10 weeks then stop it 2 weeks before breath test. By reducing the acid in your stomach, it makes it less likely that the h pylori can survive or reestablish itself.

Since an ulcer with our sleeves would be catastrophic- it's super important to get it eradicated. ( tried every excuse in the book to not let it delay my surgery, but truly it would be negligent for our surgeons to do the surgery knowing we are in danger from this)

Yes, omeprazole. I had read all the stuff and how to take, I was doing all 4 at once. Now I take PPI about an hour before I eat, then take antibiotics about a half hour before I eat and it seems to help. Not going to bathroom as much, and not as much gas gurgles. 10 more days after today. I have always used yogurt/kefir (sometimes I make my own), but making sure I drink kefir and eat a yogurt daily, and continue with probiotic I have always used. I hate that antibiotics kill all the good bacteria too.

When I went for my follow-up appointment post surgery last week they told me they found it during my endoscopy but wanted to wait until I am 6 weeks out to start me on antibiotics to give my stomach a little more time to heal from surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
